W Clair Rowley of Parowan Iron County is selected as outstanding county officer for 1953 and received the Mark Tuttle award a gold watch at the Utah Association of County Officials banquet in Salt Lake City. Rowley has served as Iron County Clerk and Auditor since 193? and previously as County Treasurer for six years. He is a former ward clerk and bishop counselor in the LDS Church and active in the Parowan Chamber of Commerce and American Legion. he and his wife Roberta Benson have seven children and nine grandchildren.

Local dress shop saved loss from check forgery
Mrs Miriam Moore of Mir iam's Style Shop was nearly hit by a check forgery scheme last week. A well dressed woman bought over $70 in clothing including a suit coat jeans nylons and a snuggy cap then left after using a worthless draft. Deputy Arch Benson alerted Cedar City officers who tracked the suspect to Beaver where the couple Robert N Huff and Fae Huff were arrested with all merchandise in their possession. They were jailed in Iron County then tried in Cedar City Justice Court on the forgery charge. The woman was fined $40 and both were released.

Check Forger Receives Penitentiary Sentence
Odie Franklin Jonas pleaded guilty to check forgery in the Fifth Judicial District Court and was sentenced to one to ten years in the state penitentiary. He was arrested after passing a forged check at Thornton Drug and attempting a second, with blanks stolen from Tibbetts Repair Shop of Parowan. Defense attorney A M Marsden appointed.
