Vivian Robb Barton 55 of Salt Lake City died after a cerebral hemorrhage at a Salt Lake Hospital. Funeral services were held in the Paragonal Ward Chapel with Bishopric direction and speakers D Amasa Stones and Thomas A Robinson. Musical numbers featured multiple performers including William Matheson and group vocalists. Pallbearers were Barton relatives. out of town mourners attended. Barton was born in Paragonah Sept 30 1896 and was active in the LDS Church.
Judge Will Le Hoyt of the Filth Judinal Court in Warowau reset the execution date for Vern Alfred Hma rasch and Melvin LeRoy Sullivan to February 26 1950 at Utah State Prison. The case marks a likely first double execution in Utah history after years of appeals and refusals.
Adelinda Orton Thornton a longtime Parowan resident and nurse died at home Thursday due to age related heart conditions. She served in the Latter day Saints church especially Relief Society for over fifty years and is survived by her husband and fourteen children among many grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Parowan Third Ward Chapel with burial in Parowan City Cemetery.
The Purowan Lions plan a canvass of all West end homes to display a Community Birthday Calendar. Initiated months ago by the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the project stalled when they disbanded. Money from East end sales remains in the bank and the calendar will be completed soon. Continued on page 2.
The Gun and Rod Club invites members and others to meet Saturday at 1 30 p m in front of the Parowan Trading Center for the club s second rabbit hunt of the year. Previous participants said the last hunt was enjoyable and many rabbits were shot.
Stake MIA leadership meeting will be held Monday January 28 at 7 30 p m in the First Second Ward Chapel.
L D S primaries announce a birthday penny drive to support the newly finished Primary Children's Hospital. The two million dollar facility will house sick children and requires increased donations through February as Home Builder girls and Trail Builder boys visit homes with Valentine envelopes. Read messages and contribute pennies based on age, with extra for luck. Parowan communities are urged to continue loyal support for this child led effort.
Mr and Mrs Edgar J King entertained Purowan Mercantile employees and their families at a supper gathering at the Winter Recreation Center on Wednesday night with tobogganning and socializing.
Vern A Hraasch and Melvin LeRoy Sullivan faced sentencing in the Pitth Judicial Court as Judge Hoyt presided. Carlos Dow Mangum received a one year jail term and 200 dollar fine for assault on a Cedar City police officer, with liquor permit canceled. Robert Rudolph Hille pled guilty to second degree burglary. one year in prison and a 3000 cent fine with suspended jail pending conditions. A jury was chosen for Linda Whitney v Joseph N Smith civil suit after a car collision. Vincent Mulliner faced habitual drunkenness charges in Cedar City District Court.
The Parowan Centennial concludes with events on January 12 and 13 sponsored by the DUP and Centennial Committee. Organizers praise directors volunteers and participants for a year of programs, reunions, and performances. A sealed Centennial Chest will hold records to be opened in 2052. residents are asked to submit clippings photos and reports at the post office or Cedar City office.
Last Friday Parowan beat Beaver 51 to 43 as Delta beat Hinckley 45 to 40 on Delta’s floor. A March of Dimes rally will close Thursday with residents turning porch lights on to show readiness to contribute to the polio fund. The drive, led by local organizers, urges generous donations to boost the already depleted fund and aid victims.
Miss Marilyn Bergstrom daughter of Mr and Mrs Wilford Bergstrom Cedar City married Robert A Robinson son of Mr and Mrs Arthur H Robinson Parowan on January 17 at the groom’s parents home D Watson Adams Parowan Bishop officiated in a ceremony attended by immediate family Members A reception followed at the Robinson home with relatives and close friends present The bride a Cedar High School sophomore wore a green gabardine suit with carnations and roses The groom’s brother Willie Robinson served as best man
Parowan's Molly wood starlet Jane Michaels appears in Flame of Araby at Firmage Theatre Friday and Saturday. Norman Michael Morrison, son of Walter and Isa Mortensen, plays the personal maid to Maureen O'Hara's Arabian princess. Michaels, a Parowan High School graduate, has lived near Hollywood since signing with a major studio.
Oscar M. Lyman of Parowan returned home from LeGrande Oregon where he attended the funeral for his sister in law Pearl Watson Lyman wife of George R. Lyman of LeGrande She was born in Parowan August 2 1877 the daughter of Lorenzo D and Melissa Clark Watson prominent Parowan residents Pearl died after a two month illness from a cerebral hemorrhage
