Parowan High Falls to Branch Aggies in Tight Home Game

Parowan High School suffered a 24 to 20 loss to the Branch Aggies on their home floor. Milo Mortensen opened scoring while Wendall Jones and Frank Hunter led the Aggies with drives and guards, but Parowan rallied late in the fourth period before time ran out. Candy Lowder left briefly with an ankle injury as Roy Stubba substituted.

Iron County Treasurer Honored as Utah Officials Head

Clair Ilulet, Iron County treasurer, was elected president of the Utah State Association of County Officials at a Salt Lake City convention last week. An active member, he previously served as vice president, and is celebrated by colleagues for this recognition.

Pioneer Day observance marks Parowan anniversary

Parowan celebrated the second anniversary of its settlement with a public meeting luncheon and an afternoon program. The theater performance directed by Winston Orton drew praise with Mrs Barbara Matheson Wallers in the lead and Hartell Dalton and Winston Orton praised for their roles. A large dance followed with extensive attendance and many old time dances enjoyed.

A social in East Ward organized by the BM I A featured lessons in the first period and a recreation dance in the second. Older participants taught dances like the Wadtille, Schottisch, and Danish slide for the younger attendees while refreshments were provided.

Minor twin tremors rattled homes early morning

Two distinct earthquake shocks were felt by many local people at about six o'clock, waking sleepers as doors and dishes rattled. An earlier report notes minor tremors around 1 am and 3 am, with the 6 am quakes felt across the area and in Partonal.

Cedar City officials announce Feeder's Day at Branch Agricultural College on Friday February. The 45 feeding experiments show practical results and will progress to include more lamb types. Prof E J Maynard of Utah State Agricultural College will help draw conclusions with other state experts. The project runs under Branch College Agricultural Department with cooperation from the Logan experiment station.

Wranglers Claim Shabby Deal From Hall Manager

The Stocky Mountain Wranglers accuse the Cedar City hall manager Mr Bulloch of promising to rent the SA dance hall for a Wednesday event and advertising it but failing to follow through. The missing promotion left the Wranglers with no venue and other town events filled the night. Mrs. G. D. Hyatt leads the group with complaints. Mrs. June Fapham from Salt Lake City has been visiting.

Old Folks Entertainment Honors Mrs. Lowder Next Tuesday

The ninety second birthday of Emily Teressa Lowder prompts a community event in Parowan and Tarowan Daragonah. A 2 p.m. program in the relief hall will be followed by a 4 p.m. banquet for residents over sixty five and invited church leaders.

Leadership Week at BYU Sets Focus on Reconstruction Foundations

BYU announces the twelfth Leadership Week from January 23 to 27 featuring daily general assemblies at 8:30 p.m. with notable speakers. Programs span recreation, health education, biography, home economics, economics, sociology, art, drama, music, and language studies. Wartren Taylor Named Assistant State Superintendent

Warren Parowan native Warren Wartren Taylor, 1346 years old, former head of grammar schools in Boalder county for nine years, is appointed by G I Shidminke as assistant state superintendent of public instruction. He holds a BA and MA from the University of Utah and has been in education since 1967.

Taxpayers League Organized in Parowan With Demands

A Parowan gathering formed a taxpayers league led by Albert M. Marsden to press for a fifty percent cut in property taxes and to seek higher personal income taxes as a substitute. Clifford Finney served as chair with James Robinson as vice chair. Albert Marsden was secretary treasurer. The group called for consolidating state boards, reducing government expenses, and a property tax cut of about fifty percent with income tax offsets. They planned to inform the legislature and tax commission and unify similar groups in the county and beyond.

Sunday School Benefit Play Planned in East Ward

East Ward Sunday school schedules an evening of entertainment on Wednesday February 1 in the Recreation hall to raise funds for song books and roll books. The program features two one act plays a vaudeville skit by Dillerd Empey and Jtay Garner numbers by the M L A chorus tap dancing and more. Admission is 25 cents for general seating.

Attorneys Uninjured When Car Turns Over

Ell bit shaky after a car skidded on a snowy slope near Sy uc in the district court area yesterday morning. Attorneys Eis J lichets of St Neorge and R J Shay of Ordar City escaped unharmed as their vehicle rolled over after braking to avoid a collision. No injuries reported and minor car damage only. Following brief court sessions in here and Beaver, the lawyers proceeded to Salt Lake City for a bar association meeting.

Former Parowan Man Leslie Yardley Dies in Los Angeles

Word reached a Parowan sister last week of the death of Leslie Yardley age 45 in Los Angeles from heart trouble. Born and raised in Parowan he leaves a large family including brothers Lloyd Yardley of Gunnison and Ulyf Yardley of Los Angeles and sisters Durt Hussell Yardley of Gunnison Kits Vinerva Stevens of Jarowsh Afra Cela Cuiser of San Diego and Mrs Filta Nussell of Los Angeles. He was buried in Los Angeles.

Two Arraigned on Felony Charges in District Court

Ted Brown of Lag Vera and Cedar City and Deles Rosenburg of the latter place were arraigned on separate felony charges. Brown faced liquor violation allegations, while Rosenburg was charged with carnal knowledge involving a 15 year old, with Judge Cox setting pleas for the opening day of the term.

Seminary Students To Bring Sunday Programs

Announcement by bishops of Larowan wards states students from the L D Seminary in Cedar City will present programs at next Sunday meetings. Seminary Sunday is observed in the stake and Cedar City students will also supply programs in other wards the same day.

Peer on Dixie Forest Shows Big Increase

Deer taken on the Dixie National Forest surged last year with about 17 290 head counted in estimates by forest officials. Some 15 641 are bucks from the Dixie area and dollars spent by hunters averaged 29 55 per bin, suggesting notable spending by non-resident hunters.

Court Says Fifty Bucks When Lowder Pleads Guilty
