Warren Pendleton and Leonard Topham announce Parowan Stake will host its annual Winter Festival on Monday January 18. The twofold aims are parishioner social bringing together the stake and raising funds to support further payments on the Stake Wel.
Stockholders re elected the former Board for another year with Leland B. Flint Joseph A. Ottenheimer W Scott Mitchell E Ray Lyman E J King Robert L Fenton Ivan Decker John Bayles Parowan and Thomas A Topham Paragona named. The meeting reported a highly successful year and executive officers will be named next by the Board. A benefit event at the Stake Welfare project includes a Pirowan Cirleville basketball game, a movie, a floor show, and dancing with tickets at 1.00 for adults and 0.50 for under 12.

Mrs. Alice Barton and Mrs. Hazel Pendleton presented American Folklore for the Parowan Literary Club with 16 members present. next gathering January 20 at Mrs. Edna Brown’s home. The Tri-H Club met at Mrs. Bryce Adams’s home with birthday greetings for Don Cartwright. G.O. Club enjoyed a New Year’s Eve evening including dinner at Garry Bentley’s and a Legion dance ending at the Mert Mitchell home. YMV Club met at Mrs. Jay Rogerson’s home for sewing and dessert. prize winners named. Mr. and Mrs. Kay Smith hosted a dinner party with table games and prizes for Roy Adams, Vera Dalton, Carma Hulet, and Sherwin Benson. ONO Club hosted Mrs. Florence S. Benson at her new home for sewing and visiting. Several members traveled. Mrs. Don Lyman flew to Athens, Tennessee, for a month with relatives, and Mrs. Kenneth Joseph prepared for a cross‑country drive to Hampstead, North Carolina with family. Russ Jardine and son George from San Francisco stayed with the Kings during Mercantile fire re‑opening week. figures in town also included Lee Flint and Joseph Ottenheimer. Rex C. Ward and daughter Helen visited from Salt Lake City. Mrs. Claude Adams remains at Iron County Hospital with pneumonia largely cleared but phlebitis persists.
David Richard Tattersall, a 6 pound 1 ounce boy, arrived January 5 at Iron County Hospital to Richard L. and Sandra Robinson Tattersall of Parowan. Grandparents include Arthur Robinson, Scott Tattersall, Mary Tattersall, Low Tattersall, Bele Reese, and W Grayson Gurr. The family celebrates with relatives in Parowan, Richfield Idaho, Hawaii and Seattle.
Milford travels to Parowan to begin Region Six league play. Parowan hailed as top contenders while Milford seeks to rebalance after a 57 38 defeat by Delta. Kent Benson and Gale Stark nursing ailments but expected to play. Admission 75 cents adults 25 cents students free with student body card. Season tickets not sold due to new seating.
Jim Hyatt leaves Thursday for California to report at Edwards Air Base January 20 for the remainder of his enlistment. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hyatt and just completed a 30 day overseas tour in the Northern Atlantic area. He is accompanied by his mother and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Orton and a Cedar City friend Miss Clark. They will stay with Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Cena (Beth Orton) of Castro Valley for a few days, with the Orion family to host a longer visit.
Mrs Moneta B Dalton 66 wife of John S Dalton of Parowan died at Iron County Hospital from a heart ailment after serious illness 3 weeks and long arthritic disability She born April 19 1887 in Parowan daughter of James A and Mehetable Page Henson lived here all her life married Oct 2 1908 in St George Temple She was a Relief Society member survived by husband six of ten children 14 grandchildren two sisters and two brothers Funeral arrangements to be announced
Mrs M Topham announced in Cedar City that she will chair the March of Dimes campaign with plans to surpass prior drives. Containers will be placed at businesses and a house to house collection drive by the Marching Mothers is planned, with Alma Lawrence in charge of school collections.
Iron County officials will review the county recreation program at a Cedar City meeting with the new County Recreational Board and community representatives. County Clerk W. Clair Rowley said each community will form local recreation committees and send one member to the central board.
Parowan Rams lost to Gunnison and Cedar as their 5-5 preseason record compared with last year. At Gunnison the Rams trailed most of the game and shot poorly, while Cedar held a slim lead late, with the final score 56 to 47 in Gunnison and Cedar edging Parowan by one point.
Porowan City selects former mayor E tay Leman to fill a council seat vacated when W Scott Mitchell resigned to become mayor on January 4. Mr and Mrs Vernon W Heap hosted an informal reception for their grandson Faron and bride Shirley Martinson of Salt Lake City after their temple vows. The couple appeared with Salt Lake City guests at a reception at the Martinsons’ home. The bride wore a white brocaded tafetta gown with illusion veil and orchid corsage. Bishop Karl C Mitchell led ceremonies as guests admired vocal and instrumental selections.
Joseph A. Ottenheimer of Salt Lake City was elected president of the Silica Sand Company at a board meeting in Parowan on Tuesday. E. J. King became executive vice president and Mrs Georgia P. Stowe was named secretary treasurer. Other directors include Edgar Ellis of Provo Robert Yeates of Salt Lake City and E Meeks Dalton of Parowan.
