Parowan Plans Seventy-Seventh Pioneer Birthday Observance
Parowan to observe the seventy-seventh anniversary of the Pioneer arrival in 1851 on the thirteenth of the month. The Incel Pevaughters organize events including a Tabernacle meeting at 10:30 a.m. a schoolhouse lunch, a drama by W. L. Adams, and an evening dance with multiple performances and talks led by local residents.

Parowan to Join Beaver County Rabbit Hunt Invite
The Beaver County Fish and Game Club invites Parowan’s Gun and Rod Club to a rabbit hunt on January 14, 1928. Fifteen men per side will compete under “usual rules” with a three to four hour hunt and a trophy prize. A meeting will decide whether to accept the invitation.

CHTY Adopts i 28 Budget
As the retiring city administration closes, the city adopts its 1928 budget based on prior receipts and expenditures. The water system receives a thousand dollars for canyon line improvements. A Utah Taxpayers Association committee urged increasing audit funds, but the council kept the tentative audit at one hundred dollars.

Arch Benson underwent surgery for a hernia at County hospital early this week. Reports say he is recovering well and should be home soon. Mrs. Benson remains with her family in Cedar City to be near the hospital as he recovers.

Parowan Gun and Rod Club Elects Officers for Year
The Parowan Gun and Rod Club elected officers for the year: Stobert L. Fentot president, W. Clarence Pendleton vice president, Thomas Benzpett secretary, Rex J. Ward treasurer, and Clifton Masterhian Paul M. Adams William F. Thornton as executive committee members. The annual ball drew about 225 attendees with beautiful evergreen decorations and mounted wildlife displays. A membership drive was launched to build a record member ship for the year. Retiring officers included Edgar Benson president Rex Ward vice president P A Clark secretary L J Adams treasurer Wim J Lowder Freeman W Syatt and W E Thornton on the advisory board.

New City Administration Takes Office On Tuesday
The new city administration assumed control led by Mayor elect John W. Bentley with H D Bayles Oscar M Lyman Clarence Richards Joe Guyman and Edgar Benson as council members and Richard M Henson as recorder. Bonds were filed delaying formal changes. Ongoing salary debates surfaced for the city treasurer position with Mary L Orton seeking higher pay while the council considered raising it from 150 to 250. The council adjourned to Wednesday for reports inventories and committee appointments.

Mrs Elizabeth Hanks of Paragonah longtime community figure since 1865 died December 28 in Salt Lake City while living there temporarily The funeral was held at Paragonah December 31 and she was buried beside her husband in Paragonah Cemetery Born December 1 1849 in Murther Tydvilla South Wales she crossed the plains at fourteen with her mother and brothers arriving in Salt Lake City October 1864 The family soon moved to Paragonah where she lived sixty two years and raised eight children including George E Hanke W H Barton Feber T Hanke William G Hanks and John S Hanks She served as president of the Paragonah Ward Primary for fourteen years and spent her later years caring for family members.

Bank Declares Twelve Percent Dividend at Iron County Bank
The Bank of Iron County announced a twelve percent dividend at its annual stockholders meeting on the 3rd. Net earnings for the year were slightly above sixteen percent, aided by lower interest on large loans and reduced loans and discounts from livestock sales to cover indebtedness.
