Funeral services held for Alfred Mortensen 12
Alfred Mortensen died after a three day illness from intestinal trouble at the county hospital. Funeral services were led by Bishop T Wendell Bayles with a West Ward choir, a school faculty tribute from Parowan High, and several musical numbers. He was born July 25 1935 in Parowan and survived by his parents six siblings and his grandmother Lowjan Mortensen with pallbearers and Boy Scouts assisting at the church and cemetery.

Turkey Growing Urged To Fight Grasshoppers
A Parowan County meeting urged grasshopper control by producing a flock of turkeys on infested farms. About 24 farmers attended, planning to order around 2,000 poults with 50 to 396 per farmer. County Agent proposed 100 poults per 40 acres of infested land, suggesting 6,000 turkeys could aid control and even elimination. A committee, led by Geo Newley, will study poult prices and breeding facilities. Interest is open to landowners in Parowan Valley and Paragunah Herds.

Visiting authorities give instruction at stake conference
Visiting authorities of the general boards of the L D S church Sunday School and Primary Organizations provided instruction at the stake conference sessions held last Saturday night and Sunday. Tracy Y Cannon and George J Garker spoke for the Sunday school aid Bessie Jones and AQ Nebeker spoke for the Primary General Boards. They addressed the sessions with subjects prepared for attendees along with stake leaders. Mr and Mrs Hud Grane of Frelevila were there for Mrs Crame's grandmother's funeral on Wednesday.

Local Red Cross Has Substantial Balance
The Iron County chapter of the American Red Cross reported a substantial fund and plans at a Wednesday meeting. About 725 dollars on hand after remitting 278 to the Nagloia organization, 42 members enrolled, 85 from seven donors, 14 from small gifts, and a carryover balance. Local use funds cover emergencies and incidental expenses. A first aid station was authorized for Modena and a convention delegate may be sent to San Francisco in May. Members approved knitted items for hospital inmates and authorized purchases to aid knitters.
