Judge Ellett Presides At Salt Lake Court Session

Judge Ellett of the Third Judicial District presided at a court session in Iron County. The docket included criminal cases heard in Salt Lake City with Amnon the Suite versus Fred Casitas. Vernon Bransch and Melvin L. Sullivan faced charges for checks without funds. pleas varied. Cedar City defendants faced similar charges, some pleading guilty, others not guilty, with trials set for February.

Gurrs mark 45th wedding anniversary with family dinner

Mr and Mrs Peter H Gurr celebrated their forty fifth wedding anniversary with a family dinner at their home. Attending were relatives from Cedar City and Provo area including Jay Parry Burns Sherratt and other family members. They were married January 25 1905 in the Salt Lake Temple and have spent most of their life here. The couple have thirteen children nine living and twenty two grandchildren with farming and civic work noted in their long partnership.

Last Chance To Enter East Ward Talent Show

Preparations for the East Ward Talent Show are under way with applications rolling in. Acts include instrumental solos and a vocal solo by Amaly Awakey among others. Contestants must submit names by Monday for a program printed in advance. The show, Feb 9 at 8:00 p.m. in St Mary, aims to raise funds for a new electric organ for East Ward.

Gold and Green Ball Schedule for Saturday

Stake Gold and Green Ball set for Saturday February 4 at Parawan High gym. Stake MLA officers and MU Men supervise the event with ward queens crowned during a floor show. Ward representatives practice the Gold and Green tango as couples from each ward join the loop chant and crowd decorates for the gala night.

The MIA held its annual Gold and Green Ball in the 4 Hour house auditorium on Saturday night January 28. Miss Yvonne Anderson was crowned queen with her brother James Anderson as king. Crowns were borne by Mina Lamoreaux and Garth Robinson. Bishop Gilbert Robinson officiated, Hazel Jean Davenport played saxophone, and the Barton group led a fold and green dance. The event featured an orchestra led by ID A Stones and drew a large crowd from Paragonah and nearby communities.

The American Legion Auxiliary Post No 26 invites the public to Parowan High School on Friday Feb 10 at 3 PM for the annual National Security and Americanism program. Quorum Meeting Sunday In Summit

The Parowan Stake High Council will meet at Summit Ward meeting house Sunday at 1 20 p m. A 2 30 p m session invites all High Priests Quorum members to attend in the same building. The Sunday School Union meeting also in Summit at 2 30 p m.

Primaries To Conduct Annual Hospital Drive

The Primary Children's Hospital annual fund drive will be conducted in most wards of the church within the next two weeks. Workers will call at homes to request a gift equal to the total ages in years of every family member, in cents. Any amount is welcome to support the hospital’s service to afflicted children.

An extension of two more days has been given the people of Paurowan to secure their 1950 automobile plates at the Court House. A State Tax Commission representative will be in Parowan on Tuesday February 7 from 9 30 a m and repeat the visit on Tuesday February 14. Applications in advance may be obtained by contacting Mr Will Gurr in Parowan.

ULA presents a three act comedy That Luc as Family directed by Herrickein with Boyd Mitchell Warren A. Dalton and Delly Gurr in leading roles. Cadet Pendleton Serves in Honor Guard Duty

Cadet Friervan W. Pendleton son of Mr and Mrs John H Pendleton Parowan attends West Point Military Academy and served in the honor guard for General Arnold funeral in Washington DC His battalion was chosen for the duty as tallest group beside the horse drawn hearse at Arlington National Cemetery He plans a June air corps expedition and July furlough His 17 months at the academy show high marks and rapid progress and he met Congressman Walter Granger during the trip.

Parowan Routs Hinckley 43 to 40 in upset win

Parowan overcame a halftime deficit to seize a 43 to 40 victory over Hinckley last Friday. Halterman led with 12 points, as Parowan trailed 10 14 at the break before building a 34 27 edge and finishing strong despite injuries to Winttra Gurr and Halterman.

Graff's Pasture Proves Value of Irrigated Land

Dr A L Graff Cedar City surgeon and rancher argues irrigated pasture yields higher per acre returns than any crop while livestock harvest the grass. A 40 acre field south of Cellar City was converted after soil mapping by Soll Conservation Service and Tron County Soil Conservation District. Continuous grazing restrictions in 1947-48 led to a productive pasture later hay. Continued on back page.

General Church Authorities to Speak Stake Conference Here

General church leaders will address a stake conference here on February 11 and 12. The program includes safety education for third graders, traffic rules, and a health and safety program led by teachers and local church officials, with participation from state and church leaders.
