Rod Club plans a New Year Eve ball in the High 4 gymnasium with dancing at 10 p m lasting until dawn. Committee members led by Nor H Day and Leonard Vice Pres coordinate the event while members gather for the annual membership drive and officers' slate.
LaMar Jensen was chosen as president with Sheldon Benson as vice president and Floyd Evans as secretary treasurer. Elmer Lowe becomes state director while Lewis Benson and Robert Mitchell join the board of directors. The election occurred at the group’s regular meeting last Monday evening.
Announcement of Genevieve Barton marrying Billy McConnell. Ceremony held Wednesday December 23 at 8:30 PM at the brides home officiated by Bishop Cilbert Robinson. Attendants included Miss Helen McBride and Keith Ence. Couple to California for a honeymoon. reception planned later. Genevieve is a Parowan High School graduate with college attendance and employment at South Western Distributing Co.
Mrs Alma Huntington Paramore of Beaver died at Iron Coin hospital as her husband Frank Paramore formerly of Parowan was noted on the back page continuation.
Elder Verl E Taylor son of Mr and Mrs Clifton Tayor of this City arrived home Christmas Eve after two years in the North Central States Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints He spent much of his time in Minnesota where he became noted for singing appearing on radio programs as vocalist and member of a missionary quartet The quartet won acclaim for public appearances on tours and radio He was the featured speaker in the West Ward Sacrament meeting last Sunday.
The D A Matheson family of Parowan celebrated the forty fifth wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs David A Matheson with a Sunday gathering at their home. Thirty two relatives attended a program featuring grandchildren, followed by a turkey dinner. The couple, married December 22 1903, have long operated in Parowan and Cedar City and are active in LDS Church and local organizations. They are parents to eleven living children and fifteen grandchildren. Albert Matheson was absent with his two children.

Newlyweds Mr and Mrs Norman Wayne Romberger were honored at a December 9 reception in West Ward Relief Society Rooms after their earlier vows at St George LDS Temple. Bride Florence Mortensen wore ivory satin with beaded yoke and a red rose bouquet. Attendants in pastel formals included Dalene Mortensen and others, with Durray Dalley of Cedar City as best man.
The regular Stake Relief Society Union Meeting will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the West Ward in connection with the Stake Priesthood meeting. All departments except the music department will be expected to be present.
Beverly Fife and David Urie wed Tuesday December 22 at Cedar City L D S Institute with Bishop William Snow officiating. Bride in white satin with red rose bouquet attended by Virginia Esplin and Iris Spencer among others. The groom, a Utah State Agricultural College student and WWII Navy veteran, will reside in Logan after a brief honeymoon.
Elden Vernon Woodbury of Hurricane, a missionary friend of Elder Verl Taylor, visited during the week at the Taylor home. Mr. and Mrs. John W. Bentley spent a week in Monrovia, California with the Elmo Mortensens. Mrs. Ralph Bayles of Salt Lake is spending the holidays here with her relatives the H. E. Bayles and the Arch Bennsons. Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Paramore and their two children are with Rulon’s mother, Mrs. Josephine Paramore. Joan and the children are visiting this week in St. George with Ray D. Garners. A delicious Banquet was served.
Nellie Matheson daughter of D. A. Matheson and Arden Hirschi son of Heber Hirschi were married Christmas Day in a Las Vegas ceremony conducted by Moapa Stake President Byron L. Bunker. The bride, active in Parowan and Cedar City youth life, will live in Leocat as Hirschi continues his studies. a reception in Hurricane followed, with Parowan plans planned.
Parowan Junior Chamber winners announced for 1930s Christmas lighting. The Parowan Service Company wins best business window display for Christmas. Clarence Pendleton takes first prize for best outside home decorations, with E. J. King and Homer Adams earning second and third prizes for North Main Street and a well lit outside tree respectively. Judging emphasized originality beauty and adherence to a general theme with extensive use of lights.
