Mr and Mrs Herbert Hulet visit from California with Herbs family the Wallace Hulet clan. Mr and Mrs Fred Topham welcome a baby boy born at Iron County hospital on Sunday December 23 the fourth child for the Tophams. Mr and Mrs Arthur Clark and family of Yerrington Nev spend Christmas at Thomas Davenport home.
Mr I G Sampson is spending the holidays here with his family while employed by a governmental agency in Colorado. Mr and Mrs Clair Lister and family, who recently moved to Bakersfield California, were in Paréwan over Christmas.
William H Barton 85 of Paragunah died Friday night of a heart attack at a basketball game in Paragunah. He was a farmer livestock grower and later custodian of Paragunah school. Survived by son Austin three daughters Mrs Alva Sheridan Mrs Gwen Burt and Mrs Elva McGbride and brother David P Barton. Interment in Paragonah Cemetery with services Friday at 1:00 pm. calling hours after 10:00 pm Thursday at Austin Barton residence.
Dewey Topham, age unknown, son of Mr and Mrs Fred Topham, is hospitalized in Provo with a serious eye wound after a glass shard struck him while children played at the old breakwater in Parowan. A bottle mishap caused the injury. doctors could not locate the glass but sutured the pupil area and fear lasting sight loss.
Construction at Glen Canyon damsite near Lees Ferry Utah Wahweep Creek blocks river traffic. Blasting and scaling render the section unsafe with canyon walls rising 700 feet. Signs mark closures at Hite Utah Lees Ferry Arizona and Mexican Hat Utah on the San Juan River. Access to river level limited to a construction road unusable by boatmen due to heavy equipment. Prime construction bid dates expected in spring 1957.
Relatives report the death of Anna Ollerton on December 24 in Phoenix where she passed away at her brother Milton’s home from a heart ailment. Born February 12, 1884, she was the daughter of James and Mary Ollerton. An alumna of Murdoch Academy Beaver and the University of Utah Normal Training class, she taught briefly in Parowan, studied at BYU in Provo, then served as librarian there until retirement in 1948. Since then she lived in Mesa, Arizona with sister Lola and brother Milton until funeral services held in Phoenix.
Iron County district court under Judge Will L Hoyte announces four regular terms in 1957 with probate and motion days and two naturalization hearing dates. Regular terms start January 22, April 10, September 10 and November 13. probate days occur alongside term openings on January 22, July 30, and December 11. naturalization hearings on April 10 and July 30.
The Utah Copper Division of Kennecott Copper Corp offers two eight minute safety cartoons to schools at no charge. The films titled Im No Fool On A Bicycle and Im No Fool With Fire aim to promote safe thinking and habits among elementary students. A Norwalk Ohio boy Frank Hewison, 19, is jailed in Cedar City after a Parowan Christ mas Eve robbery attempt. He drove into a Conoco station with a broken tail pipe, stole money from a desk sack while the clerk repaired his car, and fled as deputies chased the vehicle. Hewison confessed after days of questioning and received a jail term. A second youth, questioned by Cedar City police, was later detained.
Mr and Mrs Bud Halter of California arrived this morning for a visit with Mr and Mrs R L Halter. The reunion brings together family members and friends for a short stay in town.

Francis W. Betenson announced that seven Utah counties exceeded their bond quotas as $4,523 in United Savings Bonds were purchased in November. County sales totaled $69,562 for 11 months, 68.8 percent of the year’s quota, with December purchases expected to rise. Statewide tax bonds reached $1,573,792 in November, lifting year sales to over $18 million, the highest since 1945, with Emery Juan Grand San Juan Sanpete Washington Weber above quota and five others ahead of the state average.
