No Relief Seen for Utah Taxpayers in Next Biennium

State funds for school construction exceed regular needs
The Foundation warns that the state has committed $2 million per biennium for emergency public school construction for three straight periods. It says the state building needs will consume almost all general fund money above regular operating needs. If the Uniform School Fund formula holds, state aid will exceed nonproperty tax revenues by $11.7 million over two years, requiring $11.7 million in yearly property taxes or other sources, with possible 15 percent formula increases adding about $5.1 million annually.

Summit Man Suffers Eye Injury in Woodcutting Incident
Summit man Jack Farrow Sumeau was rushed to a Salt Lake hospital with an eye injury from a woodcutting accident south and east of Summit. A sliver struck his eye during post chopping. He was first aided in Cedar City and sent to Salt Lake for possible sliver removal. he remained sedated for several days to assess salvaging his eye, with his brother Lyle driving him to Salt Lake.
