Funeral Service Held For Skougaard Youth
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Base Ward chapel for Molgin Skougaard 15 son of Horace and Ines Myers Skougaard who died Friday afternoon from a gunshot wound apparently related to personal safety. The service featured a mixed quartet and several speakers including Bishop Will L Adams. The obituary notes he left home with a 20 30 rifle but his mother said she did not take the threat seriously. He was survived by his parents three brothers Darrell Lewis Kent and a sister Rose Marie and many relatives.

Bay Takes Sheep to Texas Ranch
Wiltort Day shipped three doub le deck carloads of speckled sheep to Barnhart Texas where his son in law Lloyd White will run them under a partnership. The Days drove through by auto and plan to be away until after the new year. Day has not considered moving permanently though he has kept some sheep on his farm. Texas markets have been favorable for the stock. John T. Rasmussen left for Christmas with her son Ollie and family in Idaho.

Project to replace city trees approved with blue spruce plan
The city council approved a project to remove 532 Boxelder and locust trees and replace them with 512 evergreen trees, chiefly Blue Spruce. The mayor said funding totals about $350 city outlay and $4,000 in labor from PWA funds, with wood sales offsetting costs. Replacements to be supervised locally, with evergreen stock likely sourced from the nearby Forest Service area.

Corn Varieties Tested At U S A G Cedar City Farm
Fourteen corn varieties grown for a university test by Rolce B Nelson near Cedar City were shipped to Z W Woodward at the U S A O in Logan to calculate acre yields for shelled dry grain. Frost halted harvest. results will be published locally and at the county extension office. This marks Nelson’s first consecutive year in the varietal test. A December 23 dance at Recreation Park will feature gideme and modern music with free refreshments for all over 16.

Agricultural Department Receives New Equipment and Staff
The Agricultural Department expands with a new instructor Mr Wright and new courses in Genetics and Animal Nutrition led by Mr Sargent. Four teaching staff now support enhanced training with a major soil analysis apparatus shipment including testing for phosphorus, nitrogen and moisture. Plant and insect specimen facilities are added for spring and summer collections. Several students return home for holidays from B Y U and Nixie College.

Mary Gould Canova Dies in San Bernardino
Mrs. R E Anderson of Cedar City attended the funeral of Mrs. Mary Gould Canova in San Bernardino California where she died December 12 after a week's pneumonia. Canova, born February 1890 in Panguitah Garfield County, left a large family including twelve children and several siblings. Funeral services were held at Mark B Shaw's in San Bernardino under Bishop Webs J Brown. Burial was in San Bernardino Cemetery.

Judge Cox Holds Final Court Term for Iron County
The last term of court in Iron County this year and Judge Cox’s final bench session heard one criminal and five civil cases. Rex Harton, 18, formerly of California, pleaded guilty to stealing two suits from the Escalante hotel and was sentenced to state prison for one to two years with probationary conditions. Civil cases included Montgomery vs heirs of Thorley, quieting title. Mundtarlang and Bergstrome et al, judgments totaling $444,938. Federal Lang Bank of Berkeley foreclosure and $842.52 etc. Southern Utah Liquidating Corp against Leigh et al for $2,859.83 and against Bulloch for $380.90.

Iron County farmers received benefit checks under the conservation program with 156 total checks to date totaling 14 429.74 dollars. About 16 900 dollars more will be distributed to farmers who cooperated by following conservation and farm-building practices this past year.
