Parowan residents celebrate veterans return from Burma India and Southwest Pacific theaters. Cliff Mortenson, Keith Bettridge, Major Owen Allred, Claude Rebutcher, and Sgt. West Ward Choir Reorganized at Social Meeting
West ward choir members held a reorganizing social at the West ward banquet hall with 55 members chosen by Mr Weight and the Bishopric for one year of service. Officers selected include Newell Weight as director Chester Hetch as manager Bulala I Orton as secretary Sybil Matheson as reporter. Choir practices set for 2 o clock each Sunday afternoon with a program followed by candy and peanuts. The first practice is scheduled for Sunday December 24 at 3 o'clock.

Richards Dedicates Kanarra Ward Chapel
Last Sunday afternoon December 17 the Kanarra ward of the L D S church dedicated its new ward chapel with Bishop LeGrande Richards offering the dedicatory prayer. Pfetzer the ward architect and four former bishops spoke as Cedar City and other state residents attended. The 30000 cost edifice includes a chapel recreation hall classrooms bishop’s room Relief Society quarters and lavatories with oak floors royal blue drapes and an ornate pulpit and sacrament table. Thornock led singing and noted only he and his wife attended from nearby towns.

Bishop Jess Guymon of the East ward announces a combined baptismal service for both wards to be held next Sunday afternoon December 24 after Sacrament meetings in the East ward chapel. The hot water and heated building save fuel, and parents of children old enough to be baptized are urged to attend after church services.

Special programs will be given in two Parowan wards on Sunday afternoon beginning at 3 o clock. In East ward speakers will be A. M. Marsden and Cliff Mortensen who has just returned from a 30 month period of armed service in Idaho. Other numbers include a vocal solo by La Mont Thornock and a Retold Story by Della Gurr. Parowan Schools Reach War Bond Quota
Parowan high school met its $2500 war bond quota with $2550 in bonds and $68.10 in stamps by last Friday evening, plus an over quota auction on the drive's final day. The drive total including a theater sale at Alladin brought in $5,212 from bonds sold through two sources. Mrs. C. J. Stubbs left for Cheyenne to aid with a new infant born to Sgt. DeMar Stubbs and wife, DeMar stationed at Pont Francis E Warren.

Santa Claus will visit two ward Christmas tree programs on Christmas Eve. West Ward program starts 7:00 with a Bird's Christmas Carol dramatization directed by Melvin Rowley and candy for children. Deer permits sold fall short of total need near Parowan Paragonah
After the close of the special doe deer hunt around Parowan and Paragonah this week, 191 permits were sold out of the county treasury stock. Many permits were unused and some deer may have been harvested without horns removed. The hunt started seven days in Bonehole and Cottonwood north of Paragorah, then extended three days to foothills near Parowan and Paragonah, aiming to relieve local overpopulation and permit conditions. Additional figures may appear in a future issue.

Survivor Kenneth Joseph Narrowly Escapes Sunken Tanker
Kenneth Joseph, Electrician's Mate in the U S Navy, survived the sinking of a 23000 ton tanker off a central Pacific inlet. He swam through blazing oil, was in the water one hour and twenty minutes before rescue, and later sought leave to visit Cedar City before reporting to another ship. He is stationed at Terminal Island and has served over a year.

Staff Sergeant Rulon C Paranor, 19, of Parowan Utah tail gunner on a B 17 of the 25th Bombardment group earned an Oak Leaf Cluster to the Air Medal for meritorious achievement in Eighth Air Force bombing of German targets. Presentation by Col Kart Truesdell Jr, Washington DC. He has won the Air Medal and now the Oak Leaf Cluster showing active service. Miss Lennie Page and Byleen Hulet have returned home for the holiday vacation from B U and Utah State Agricultural College.
