The District Division Region Six posted its basketball schedule drawn up in Beaver last October. Openers are January 4 and 5 with Parowan at Dixie and Enterprise at Kanab. The slate runs through March 2 with 20 games and multiple byes. Parowan and Dixie feature in several key matchups as teams prepare for league play and practice games fill the weeks ahead.
A Cedar City youth Richard Buffing son of Mr and Mrs Clifford Ifington died in an early morning crash on Highway 1 north of Paragonah. Four youths left Cedar City around midnight heading to Beaver when the car left the road skidded and overturned. Theron Bonzo Miss Hel Reese and Georgia Bybee were hospitalized with injuries. A bus carried the injured to Beaver then to the hospital at Olat City. Reese and Bybee suffered severe injuries and fractures while Buffing’s family recently moved from Dena Air and planned to register next week. The drivers father recently took over the Lunt cafe in Cedar City. The Christmas Cantata in Springville will be attended by Mr and Mrs Les Brown and family.
Christmas Tree programs will be held in both wards on Christmas Eve. The West ward event at 6 15 pm involves the Primary and Sunday School in the Recreation hall at A390 directed by Avilla Halterman. The East ward program starts at 7 30 pm in the ward chapel with a short play directed by Hildreth Patten and Mary Lu Joseph. Santa Claus will visit both with candy and nuts. Mrs Halterman announces a January 8 meeting for the Westward Primary.
Worth L. Orton returned home from two years overseas with one year in the U S. He was discharged at Fort Douglas and wears five battle stars. Clifton Ward Taylor came home after 21 months in Italy Sicily and Corsica with a Radar division earning three battle stars. Claude Jensen released after service since March 1941 has spent time in Oakland and Detroit visiting his family. Norman Mickelson returns from Camp Hood to join brothers Ernest and Leonard, with sister Adrienne serving in the Army Nurses Corps in San Francisco. Cpl Gordon Matheson released from the Army Air Corps trained as a gunner on a heavy bomber. Elwood Page arrived home after discharge at Fort Douglas. he served in France Belgium and Germany as an ambulance driver earning five battle stars. Priv Donald B Haycock discharged from Fort Douglas after 16 months in France Belgium and Germany with the 88 field artillery. Staff Sgt Clinton M Thornton released from Fort Douglas. served in China with US Forces. Joseph C Orton landed in Vancouver, Washington, and Frank and Clarence Lowder arrived in New York.

The eighty four birthday of Mrs Esther E Orton will be honored with an Open House at her home on Sunday afternoon December 23 from 3 to 5 p m announced by her children Relatives and friends are invited to call Esther though not in best health recently she remains active with her own housework
Parowan Exchange club holds its regular semi monthly meeting next Wednesday at 7 30 p m in the court room of the courthouse. Club officers announce the gathering will cover important business and invite all members and community members to attend. Alden Robb is expected to be released from service and stay with his parents.
Parowan has passed three quarters of its 30 900 quota for the Victory Loan. Local post office sales total 12 618 and Cedar City bank bond purchases 11 250 for a county total of 23 868, about 60 percent. County leader L N Marsden expects over all by month end with Christmas gifting. Topham urges further sales to push Parowan over the top.
The Parowan Times announces that after the issue published between Christmas and New Year it will discontinue sending papers to service members under the wartime cooperation program. Movement and address changes have made mailing lists unreliable. remaining homefront readers may continue sending papers at regular rates or via First class mail. The paper acknowledges the program's value and thanks participants, but notes many overseas recipients never received or received late copies.
A Parowan Service Men's Wives club invites all present or discharged World War Two service members in Parowan and their partners to a dancing and table games party. Wives not yet returned are especially invited. The event is on Wednesday evening December 26 at the Brown Derby at 9:00.
Parowan residents will enjoy a busy holiday season with school cantatas directed by Max Dalley, Christmas programs in both wards, cantatas and concerts, MIA Snow Ball, and multiple dances. The schedule includes New Year events by the American Legion Post, Gun and Red Club ball with Moonlight Serenaders, and regular Saturday dances at Brown Derby. Community groups host parties for service members and numerous private events as calendars adjust for January.
Joseph E Ward of the West ward Bishopric announces H Wayne Driggs director of the Branch Agricultural college will be the speaker at the Sacrament meeting Sunday afternoon December 23 at 2 30 oclock The sermon will focus on the life of Prophet Joseph Smith founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints There will be Christmas music by the ward choir during the meeting.
The East ward Bishopric announces the Sacrament meeting Sunday afternoon December 23 at 2 o clock will feature returned service men from the ward. All men recently serving or on furlough may speak briefly, with a vocal solo by ex serviceman LaMar Jensen. All ward members invited.
