The Parowan Rams defeated Springville 48 to 34 in a two night basketball schedule at Cedar, with Parowan taking an early, steady lead and Cedar City later edging Springville 51 to 50 as Jordan led the Cedar crowd.
Christmas spirit rose on Main Street as evergreen sprays and color lights were illuminated Tuesday evening. Parowan City workers and Chamber of Commerce members organized the Yule display, praised for their efforts. The project aims to inspire residents to decorate their own properties this season.
Parowan schools will dismiss for the Christmas holidays at noon Thursday, December 23. Principals Max Dalley and Alma Lawrence announce students will reconvene for regular work on Monday, January 3.

Parowan hosts a series of holiday events from December 21 to 26 including a Mutual Improvement Association program, Third Ward Choir Cantata, PHS Junior Class Sweater Hop, multiple Christmas Tree programs, an FFA Sweetheart Ball, and a First Ward Choir musical linked to Sacrament meeting. Santa will visit on Christmas Eve. Other social and sports events are planned for the following week.
Future Farmers of America chapter schedules a Sweetheart Ball for Saturday evening December 25 in the school gym with public attendance invited. Details to be announced by the members.
Patowar Ish School Band Mothers organization added two new officers, Mrs Claude E Burton as entertainment chairman and Mrs A C Hatch as reporter. They report four new band uniforms ordered for Sunday evening’s concert and additional belt buckles.
Newlyweds Mr and Mrs Delos Robert Dalton celebrated their marriage vows in the Manti LDS Temple with Fidel Pratt Alfred officiating. The bride Jeanenne Hyatt Dalton wore a satin gown at a reception in Parowan First Ward Church with family and wedding party.

The MIA of three Parowan Wards presents Story of the Carols a Christmas musical with music and narration. Karl Mitchell and Marguerite Orton read, Mrs Shirley Evans and Mrs Mary Dawn Dalton direct singing. Performance starts at 8 p.m. Public urged to attend.
Parowan native James Eugene Robinson, son of James C. Robinson, earned notice by presenting a medical physics paper at the North American Radiological Society meeting in Los Angeles. A Mallinckrodt Institute researcher, he pursues a PhD at Washington University in St. Louis after studies at Utah State Agricultural College. He previously taught at State College in Emporia and plans to complete his doctorate in St. Louis while visiting Parowan with his mother.
Parowan Elementary sixth graders present a Christmas program titled Trouble in Toyland Monday at 7 30 PM in the school auditorium directed by Mrs Jean Hendrickson with assistance from faculty. Each pupil has a speaking part and will wear costumes. Parents and patrons are invited to attend. A repeat performance for elementary students is set for Thursday at 9 30 AM.
The Firmage Theatre in Parowan is near completion of upgraded gear costing about 4000 dollars. A pew RCA Dynalite wide cinemascope vinyl screen 13 feet 6 inches by 23 feet 6 inches with 18 percent curvature fills the enlarged proscenium, accommodating standard, wide screen, cinemascope and vistavision. The new system nearly doubles the previous picture size and includes a special step frame.
Report on Master Singers notes a Thursday December 9 concert at 8 pm by the Cedar City Master Singers with a good will appearance at Parowan Ist, Wari Chapel. Attendees were few but satisfied as Herman EK Bayle reports an outstanding performance.
Pareewan High School music department presents an eight pm Sunday concert featuring about 200 students across Hand women and men choirs ensembles trios duets and solos. The Parowan Third Ward choir will present a new Christmas cantata titled The Music of Bethlehem on Wednesday night December 22 at 8 pm. Mrs Ramona Mitchell Stubbs directs. Soloists include Karl Mitchell bass Frankie Lou Bentley mezzo-soprano Mary O Topham Mary Dawn Dalton soprano and Patricia Urie Jackie Ward soprano and alto in a duet. The Third Ward Chapel hosts the public for the performance.
News from Parowan reports Sg. Hillman R. Adams and his wife Helen Cameron traveled from Denver to Riverside Calif, where Adams is assigned to Mareh Field. A two year Air Corps veteran, he served in World War II in Burma and the Pacific, including Hawaii, and once worked as an producer at Lowarty Field Denver. He recounts daring typhoon experiences as among his career highlights.
Iron County Commissioners approve a 437,000 tentative budget for 1955 expenses, about 36 more than 1934, with a public hearing set for December 23 and adoption later that day. No borrowing planned, keeping finances on a pay up basis and saving on interest. A Civil Defense vacancy, life insurance plan adoption with 75 percent employee support, and efforts to engage the Escalante Valley Coordinating council are noted.
Santa Claus will visit the children of all Parowan Wards on December 24. Primary Associations have arranged programs with bags of goodies to be distributed after each ward’s event. The Second Ward starts at 6 30 p.m. at the 1 2 Ward Chapel, Third Ward at 7 p.m., and First Ward at 7 30 p.m. in the Recreation Hall.
Parowan High School junior class announces a Sweater Hop dance on Thursday December 23 in the school gymnasium following the Cedar basketball game. A beautiful sweater will be awarded to a lucky attendee. Class officers Delores Thornton, Susan Benson and Connell Mitchell lead the planning as a general committee invites the public.
Four December storms brought .58 inch of rain to the area, per Clay ton Rasmussen, local weather observer. Though not heavy, the modest moisture offers a glimmer of relief after a severe drought. Temperatures remained near normal with a high of 56 on December 2 and a low of 12 on December 12.
Cedar City High music teacher Mr Helland wins approval for students to attend the California Western Musical Festival in Berkley April 3 to 6. Iron County School District reports show varied per school costs with Cedar West Elementary at 178.61 and Parowan High at 332.48. district finances are sound and 14 new laws are discussed to fit school needs. Attendees include Heber Levy and Howard Dalley at conventions reviewing public address in buses and in transit entertainment. A money transfer hearing is set to continue on page three.
New arrival announced by Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Orton of Rexburg Idaho. A 7% pound boy named David Morgan was born December 9 to Bryce and Thelma Morgan Orton of Idaho City. The Ortons now have two other children, Pamela and Debra. Maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs J E Morgan of Riverton Utah.
