State Road Commission Keeps Kanab Route to Dam Site
The Utah State Road Commission will keep the Kanab to Glen Canyon dam site road as official access. A Southern Utah delegation sought an alternative via Bryce Canyon toward the Arizona border, but a delay would jeopardize dam supply lines. Bids for a 12 mile section near the Arizona border estimated at $900,000 will open Dec 12, with $1.9 million more planned for other sections. Total funds of about $2.8 million aim to finish roughly 40 miles of the 60 mile road.

Brother of Parowan Man Killed In Truck Crash At Bingham Mines
John H. George, brother of Jay George of Parowan, died Tuesday at about 12 30 p m when his tractor trailer plunged off a 200 ft embankment at the Bingham Copper Mine. He left a wife and four children, and his loss follows a career as an electrician with Utah Construction Company during Kennecott operations. Surviving are his widow Diane Patterson, three children, and his parents Glen and Eva George plus three brothers and one sister. The 45 000 dollar equipment involved had been overhauled recently and the cause remains undetermined.

Impressive services were held for Claude E. Burton, Parowan business and civic leader, who died Wednesday night at Iron County Hospital. Dec 15 marks end of the waterfowl season for Canadian geese and their subspecies in Utah while duck seasons run through Dec 31.
