High School Addition Underway in Iron County

Iron County Board of Education opened bids for the Perowan High School addition with Witt Construction of Provo the low general contractor at 164 680. Atkin Plumbing and Heating of Cedar City won mechanical work for 40 760 and L C Guymon Provo the electrical at 13 871 though board accepted a 19 000 alternate. New gym extends from 60 by 90 to 90 by 106 feet with folding bleachers seating 1200, glass boards, and a dividing panel for double use.

Seventy Quorum Enjoy Five Mile Fete in Parowan Stake

Members of the Seventy Quorum of Parowan Stake and their partners held a corn roast at the Five Mile recreation camp on Saturday evening. Attending were Enoch Paragonah and Parowan Ward members with Ray Adams and Kent Marsden arranging. After a hot supper, attendees sang and shared stories around the camp fire.

King to head Utah State Fair horse show

Parowan businessman iL J King named chairman of the Utah State Fair horse show by J A Theobald. He will enter and register all horses for exhibition, supervise demonstrations, and oversee classes. King also leads the Rom County Fair horse show and race meet and owns a premier stable. He departs Sept 22 to begin duties in Salt Lake City.

New Theme to Be Presented at M I A Conference Session

The Parowan school lunch program faces a price rise from 15 to 20 cents per meal to cover higher costs and new equipment needs. It operates on state and federal funds with space provided by the local district, aiming to keep wholesome meals without local tax funding. Lunches start September 4 and continue on school days. Local couples depart for Indiana trip with LDS mission reunion

Mr and Mrs Ancel J Adams and Mr and Mrs Bryce Adams leave Tuesday for a two week trip to Columbus Indiana. They will meet Miss Vilo Adams daughter of Ancel and Gertrude who will be released Sept lat from the Great Lakes Mission for the LDS Church after an 18 month missionary service. Couples travel by car via Southern route east and returning by Northern route. Side trips to early church history sites are planned and Vilo will accompany them home.

Miss Eileen Johnson daughter of Mr and Mrs Ivan Johnson of Paro wan Utah became the bride of Ronald Robinson of Paragonah in a ceremony at Proche Nevada August 23. Bishop Harry H Harlocker officiated at the home ceremony with both families present. The couple, popular Parowan High School students, plan to continue studies and reside in Paragonah.

Son Mrs Harris Receive News Of Navy Wedding

Mr and Mrs Claude Harris of this city learned their son W E K Merrin married Miss Virginia E Brown of Tacoma Washington on July 25 in Tacoma. Rev Marion Flint officiated in a Chanels church. The bride wore a blue satin gown with white accessories. The groom is in the U S Navy, promoted to Fireman, stationed at the Tacoma Naval base. The couple will reside in Tacoma.

Parowan to Host Bi Stake Primary Convention

Parowan Stake Primary officers and board members will host the bi stake convention for Parowan and Beaver Stakes on September 11 and 12. Salt Lake City representatives will attend, with a Thursday evening meeting for parents of Primary children at 8 30 p.m. and a Friday 10 45 a.m. gathering for stake officers and ward officials. A noon luncheon and 1 p.m. sessions will follow in the Parowan chapel.

Parowan Benefit Concert Praises Local Talent

Local performers in Parowan raised funds for an organ at the First Ward Chapel with a concert last Friday evening. Despite a smaller crowd, performers led by Steve Adams, Kenneth Topham and Marie Adam delivered trumpet duets, vocal solos, piano pieces, dramatic readings, and a final Roll Jordan Roll, contributing 86.69 dollars to the organ fund and plans for a Cedar City program on a cooperative basis.

Iron County Pair entertainment and races planned at Parowan

The General committee announces a two day program featuring horse shows and races, western bands the Utah Buckaroos and a chariot event at the Iron County Pair in Parowan. Five matched horse races with substantial purses start at 2:10 each day, plus wild bron e riding and calf roping exhibitions. Registration for Parowan High School classes runs Sept 3 and 4, with 2000 in premiums across 4-H and homemaking divisions and judging Thursday.
