Stake meeting announced for August 28 29 at Ward Chapel

The Suske HEE conference and division suber will be held next weekend with representatives from the church. Lily Marl Ve'ersen, ward officials, and all State Council members are invited to attend at 10 am on Saturday. The meeting will involve bishops, ward desks, priests, and adult Aaronic Priesthood. Attendance expected with some financial offerings and numbers noted.

Dedication plans for monuments set for Sept. 3

Fragmentary notice outlines ceremonies at the Burr site on Clair Rowley’s corner in Main Street. Speakers include pr Fenton and Mayor E Ray Lyman. Guests include elderly city officials. Prizes in art and crafts contests are announced with various categories.

Local FFA Boys To Judge At Salt Lake County Fair

Thales Brown, agriculture instructor at Parowan High School, and six FFA members traveled to Salt Lake City to compete in judging contests at the Salt Lake County Fair in Murray. The dairy team included Myron Abbott, Joe Benson, and friend Evans, while Niles Kayls, Jimmie Anderson, and Caudel Orton contest the poultry division. Cedar City High School and Hurricane High teams also entered crops and livestock judging respectively, with stops en route for practice and a plan to select calves from the Industrial School Dairy Farm in Ogden for a chain project financed by Parowan Mercantile and Southern Utah Dairy Co.

All Band Members Urged To Attend Rehearsal

All band members past and present are urged to attend a Sunday rehearsal at 4:00 PM in front of the High School. The Fair Committee invites members with free fair tickets and drinks, thanking Parowan for its ongoing support and urging cooperation with the community.

Special Deer Permits On Sale At County Court House

County officials announce deer permit sales at the county courthouse under game warden Saunders Clark. South Parowan 200 permits and Paragonah Cottonwood 300 permits are available, with sales running through September 3. If demand exceeds supply, a drawing will be held September 8. Sales have been light recently.

Special Reminders For Flower Exhibitors At Fair

Iron County Fair floral committee led by Mrs Perseus Higbee Mrs Ver a Adams and Mrs Jennie Say ers issue rules for exhibitors. Entries due by 10 a m Friday September 3 at West Ward Recreation Hall reception from 8 a m. Flowers should be cut with sharp knife placed in cold water stored in dark draft-free area 40 to 50 degrees. Wrap in moist newsprint and use containers supplied by exhibitors. A flower arrangement demonstration follows judging at 3 p m in the church.

Primary convention draws Beaver Parowan officers teachers

Over 170 primary officers and teachers from Beaver and Parowan Stake attended the Bi Stake Primary Convention in Parowan last Saturday. President Jean Hendrickson led morning sessions for Stake Workers and afternoon Ward Workers. Parowan Stake Board hosted a noon luncheon for Beaver Stake workers and General Board members.

Contributions Urged for C of C Five Mile Lighting

Fred Smith Readys Display Building For Crops and Fruits

Mr Fred Smith has labored to prepare a display space for field crops vegetables and fruit at the coming Iron County Fair. With his wife he improved the CCC building at the race track grounds transforming it from a deserted barn into a comfortable attractive exhibit area. He has devoted hundreds of hours to organization and construction with little outside help and asks local growers to bring displays of every county harvest.

New Home Demonstrator Appointed for Iron County

At a Thursday forenoon meeting in the County Court House Utah Agricultural College director Karl Frischknecht introduced Iris Moore of Spanish Fork as the new Home Demonstrator Agent for Iron County. Present were Commissioner Hugh L. Adams W. Clair Rowley several local residents and Mrs Hannan Robinson of Paragonah. Luncheon followed at Mathesons Cafe.

Iron County Lunch Program Starts First Day Of School

The Iron County school lunch program begins with the first day of school. Lunches will cost 15 cents each, same as last year, according to County School Lunch Supervisor Leone J. Lyman.

Students Shine In Two Piano Recitals At Marsden Home

Forty students of Mrs. Della Marsden delivered creditable performances in two piano recitals held Thursday afternoon and evening. Younger players under 11 presented solos including Jerrolyn Gurr, Barbara Bayles, Kathleen Smith, Laurette Mitchell, Vanda Mitchell, Rex Barton, Margaret Barton, Helen Hulet, Emily Mae Wilcock, Juanita Hatch, and others with pieces such as Old Folks At Home, Spring Song, and The Mill Stream.

Governor Maw to Attend County Fair on September 3

Word arrives that Governor Herbert B. Maw will accept the invitation to attend the Lion County Fair and stay for most events Friday September 3. A luncheon in his honor is planned by the local Chamber of Commerce at the Five Mile camp. He is expected at the Junior Chamber of Commerce rodeo at 2 p.m. that day.

High Priest Quorum Outing at Five Mile Recreation Camp

Members of the High Priests Quorum of the Parowan Stake and their partners enjoyed an outing at the Five Mile Recreation Camp on Friday evening last week. Over 100 attended, with about 75 percent male. Myron S. Jones of Enoch chaired the committee assisted by Mr and Mrs Hugh L. Adams of Parowan. After lunches, ward groups presented performances while Stake Presidency members spoke briefly, and stories and jokes were shared by High Council and Bishops. Wm F. Armstrong presides, Peter H. Gurr is 1st vice president, Howard Joseph 2nd vice president, S J Whitney Secretary.

Last Rites Held For Mrs. Lucetta Rasmussen

Funeral services for Mrs. Lucetta Orton Rasmussen were held in the West Ward Chapel on Thursday August 19 with Bishop W Leonard Evans presiding. Invocation by Thos Rowley opening and closing songs by a male quartet speakers Barbara M Adams Arthur Joseph and Bishop Evans. Special music by Mary O Topham and George Woodhouse Beaver. Benediction by Thos Abbott. Burial in Parowan City Cemetery.

All Men 18-25 Must Register Before September 18

E B Dalley, appointed clerk of Iron County Local Selective Services Board, announces registration for men aged 18 to 25 from 8 a.m. August 30 to 5 p.m. September 18. Registration centers open daily during official period with Parowan draft age men registering at the Post Office. The dates segment covers those born after August 30 in 1922 with August 30 as a reference point.

Iron County Fair booklets are distributed to farmers and residents with a $1500 prize fund across divisions for field crops vegetables fruits dairy beef cattle sheep swine arts crafts hobbies clothing needlework flowers canned foods 4-H exhibits and the horse show.
