County Commissioners Discuss Tax, Roads and Budget

County commissioners at their regular Aug meeting considered tax redemption applications, land sales, and a series of road projects. They approved purchases of land, set installment terms for taxes, and urged action on WPA supply needs for Cedar Canyon and Long Valley roads.

Flower Show Schedules for Parawan Ward Relief Societies

The Flower Show of the Parawan and West Ward Relief Societies will be held next Saturday and Sunday, August 28 and 30, during the Parawan Stake conference. Flowers should be brought to the East Ward chapel by 10 o'clock Saturday morning for reception and display. Mrs. Clarence Pendleton, recently operated on in Salt Lake City, is recovering in the hospital and expected home soon.

Stake Conference Here Next Week End

The Qutterly Conferences of the Parowsa Stake will be held here next Saturday and Sunday August 29 and 30. The Stake Resist Society and M I A Conventions and Primary Union Meeting will also be held in connection with the Conference. M I A meetings will be in the West Ward Chapel and regention hall while Relief Society and Primary Association meetings will be in the East Ward chapel. General Conference sessions will be in the East Ward Chapel with representatives from Relief Society and M I A General Boards likely present. The conference coincides with the annual flower show of the Parooan Ward Re- Vet Botaties.

Democrats Nominate Nephi Man For District Judge

The Democratic convention in Nephi nominated Will L. Hert a Nepal attorney for Fifth Judicial District Judge after a 19 ballot battle. Hoyt won the nomination, Leatherbury withdrew on the 18th ballot with votes shifting to Hoyt. Alf Pickett won the District Attorney nomination, defeating Milton Melville on the second ballot. Bain Cline was elected Democratic district chairman and Herbert Milne district secretary.

Notice to Northern States Missionaries in St George

On Wednesday September, Germin EB Ellsworth and wife Ellsworth, former President of the Northern States Mission, will visit St George to meet missionaries who served 1902 to 1919 and their partners. Democrats Nominate Governor Blood To Succeed Himself

The Democrats of Utah convention nominated Governor Henry H. Blood for a second term, defeating Senator Herbert B. Maw 447 to 353 after a heated statewide contest. Blood captured key counties, while Maw carried Salt Lake, Utah, and Weber in the battle. The ticket also named B. R. Monson for secretary of state, with Monson defeating Quinn and Granger on the final ballot. Congressmen Abe Murdock was nominated by acclamation for re-election.

Armory Building Project Moves Forward in Cedar City

After two years of effort by the Local Chamber of Commerce and the Utah Armory Board a WHA project to build an Armory in Cedar is ready to start. Brick making begins next week with foundation work by early September. The site on First East near the First Ward chapel was chosen with a purchase price of 1800 dollars. City funds 500 dollars, Chamber of Commerce Trust Fund 900 dollars, and the county to deed a 400 dollar local lot to the Trust Fund for replacement.

Wm. E Thornton Hurt In Race Accident

Wm. E Thornton a noted race horse rider and trainer sustained serious injuries after his horse and another horse collided on the track. He was unconscious and had cuts and bruises. rushed to hospital where seven stitches were needed for hip wounds and other injuries. X rays showed no broken bones. Officials ruled the incident avoidable and that a foul was committed by rider Finn.
