Funeral Services For Former Parowan Girl
Funeral services were held for Mra Audda Mortensen Hansen 23 wife of Mack Hansen of Richfield at the West Ward Chapel. She died Sunday at Loa County hospital after an eight week illness from heart trouble and peritonitis of the kidneys. She had recently been at a Cedar City hospital and in Salt Lake City before this. Local clergy conducted services with music by the choir and quartet. Pallbearers were her brothers and a brother-in-law. She is survived by her husband, her parents, siblings, and grandparents. Many from Delta Cedar City and Richfield attended the service.

Richfield Man Enters Governor Nomination Race
Richfield businessman Prank G. Martines announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for governor. Soil Conservation Supervisors Chosen in Iron County
Iron County Soil Conservation Committee met in Cedar City to elect a county treasurer and nominate two county supervisors. Gertrude Gudmundson was named treasurer, Edmond Curry and Arnold Stevens were nominated for supervisors. Supervisors will check farm compliance with the Soil Conservation Act and begin duties soon. Farmers urged to plant alfalfa before September 15 to qualify for program payments, with a September 8 deadline for those not yet meeting requirements.

Typhoid inoculations planned for Parowan and Pangona
The State Board of Health launches a statewide typhoid vaccination campaign due to contaminated water and flies. In Parowan the clinic will run August 20 from 9 to 12 at the West Ward Church basement with vaccines provided free while a per person doctor’s fee covers three inoculations. A Pangaonah clinic follows August 21 at the Church building with broad participation urged. Residents are advised to take part even if immunized in years past. Meanwhile Mr and Mrs Clarence Pendleton head to Salt Lake City for medical consultation and their daughter Mrs Marc Jo Topham awaits surgery for a goiter with family at her side.

County Commission Reduces Tax Levies in Iron County
Iron County Board of County Commissioners met in Parowan Saturday to cut the county levy by 4 mills for the coming year. The 12 percent reduction in assessed value on improvements will also save taxpayers. The total levy sits at 6.00 mills with specific allocations to General fund 2.00, Road fund 1.00, Indigent fund 0.40, Hospital 1.00, Library 0.40, Interest and Sinking 1.20. State levy drops to 6.00 from 9.50, school levy to 10.0 mills, Cedar City at 7.50, Pahranagat and other towns retain or adjust their rates. Property within Cedar City will pay 47.50 mills versus 23.00 outside city limits.

Mortensen Wins Third Place in Fisher Body Contest
Jay Mortensen an 18 year old Parowan boy won third place in the state wide Fisher Body Craftsman’s Car Contest receiving a 2500 prize for his miniature traveling coach model of the Napoleon era. The award was announced by Wm A Fisher president of the GM Education Foundation in Detroit. Judges have been evaluating Utah and neighboring entries since August 1. Mortensen devoted substantial effort to his model and is lauded for his achievement.
