City Council Sets Traffic Rules and Fines Policy

City Council discussed traffic regulation including a 15 mph speed limit and curbside parking rules. They referred curfew enforcement to the attorney and reviewed license complaints from Parowan Brug Co. and Green & Green, plus fines remittance for John V Benson and a small appropriation request from Daughters of the Pioneers for the twenty fourth celebration.

Cheese Factory Patronage Increasing

A local cheese factory shows rapid growth from 700 pounds of milk weekly from 13 patrons to 2200 pounds from 61 patrons in one day. The plant produced 63 pounds of cheese on the first day and about 200 pounds today, with demand higher than imported cheese. Directors consider installing a separator and churn to handle weekend milk, while sanitation and convenience upgrades proceed and the plant aims to be Ship-Shape.

Iron County Couple Marries in Beaver

An unconsumed report claims Delbert Woolsey of Cedar City and Miss Sarah Bettridge of Beaver were wed in Beaver on Monday. The groom is the son of Martin Woolsey of the Woolsey ranch near Pinto and has children from a previous marriage. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs George Bettridge. They likely will reside in Cedar City. The Times extends best wishes.

Lyman Reports Drive Down East Rim Trail and Canyon

William Tr. Lyman traveled to Washington County to appraise farms for state loans and described the new East Rim Trail from Zion Canyon. He praised the ride for its grade and views but warned of steep gouged sections and the danger to riders and tourists on narrow cliff edges.

Local residents injured in county auto crash

Thomas W. Burtly and R H Benson were treated at County Hospital for injuries after a car collision late last night. Alvin K. Denson and John W. Benam accompanied them. the group was returning from across the chest area when a larger vehicle blocked the road. The driver veered into a barrow pit, the car overturned, leaving Burtly with a broken leg and Benson with a dislocated or broken shoulder.

War Declared Against Noxious Weeds in Iron County

Iron County commissioners declare war on listed noxious weeds led by Wild Morning Glory and Canadian Thistle. They appoint deputy weed inspectors, issue an August 20 deadline, and threaten property seizures and tax assessments to fund eradication efforts. Sportmans Club Plans Race Track And Traps

The Gun & Red club meets to push a race track and trap shooting ground in the community. They aim to work with the Chamber of Commerce and other groups to seek a real road up Parowan canyon and to obtain permission from the Game Commissioner to close three mountain streams to fishing.

Council threatens to cut off lights for delinquents

At a special meeting the City Council voted to disconnect water and electric service for those delinquent on August 20 and to repeat the policy monthly. The motion targets June bills first with July charges becoming delinquent on September 20. Contracts were also discussed with Paragonah Town Board to draft separate agreements for Paragonah and Fleur Mall. Mayor Adams and Councilman Marsden were absent.

County Schools To Open September 13 This Year

The Board of Education decided public schools will begin on Monday September 13 with a school year calendar including institute sessions at Cedar City and Parowat and a winter break of two weeks. They awarded coal contracts to Kenneth Macfarlane Cedar Canyon Coal and discussed adding schools in Iron Springs Slamlin Valley and Beryl. A district financial report and disposal of a Newcastle building used by church and school were noted with plans for a two room school there and a meeting with County Commissioners on county redistricting every five years.
