Mrs Esther Orton Of Parowan Funeral Notices
Funeral services for Mrs Esther E Orton will be held Sunday at 3 30 p m in the Parowan West Ward Chapel. She died at 7 40 am at her home after a long illness. Born December 23 1861 in Vegi Washington County she was a daughter of Joel H Johnson and Margaret Threlkeld Johnson Utah pioneers. She lived in Bellevue Pine and married Suppes T Orton in 1877. later widowhood and a 1910 second marriage to William G Orton. Survived by eleven sons and many daughters, 45 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Burial in Parowan City Cemetery. Body at family home in Parowan Saturday afternoon until service.

Mr and Mrs John H Pendle and families from Twin Falls and Salem Utah visited Parowan for a week to see Mrs Pendleton s mother and sister in law. Norman Luke spent weeks with Maule Lister family while others joined a large dinner at Parowan mountains then toured Cedar Breaks Bryce Canyon and returned by midweek.

A group from East Ward Lis organized a welfare project under leadership to can cat meat as a welfare assignment this week. Members contributed efforts and prepared a finished product valued at more than costs, with the activity managed by ward leaders.

Parowan Woman Dead in Los Angeles Stabbing
Donna Vergene Rasmussen Rickard 29 was stabbed eight times in her car beside her estranged husband Bennett Rickard after a high speed crash in East Los Angeles. Rickard confessed briefly, later denied the crime, and investigators say he was responsible. The tragedy follows years of marital strife and threats. Mr and Mrs Jim D Lloyd and daughters Patricia and Carol Ann were in Parowan from Boulder City Nevada for a week of vacation and fishing in the mountains. Philip Bennou and daughter Susan joined but returned Tuesday after a heavy storm at Panguitch Lake. The Lloyds plan to return to Boulder City August 7. Lois Crane and her son from Richfield visited Parowan with Mrs Rebecca A Miller and family. Lois is Hert Miller of Salt Lake Citys daughter. Howard Debnam and sons Tommy and Howie visited Barta family and others, traveling home to Hig Park California after trips along the coast to Oregon Washington Idaho and Yellowstone Park. Roscoe and Afton Booth with two young daughters visited Parowan Cedar City with the Goons and Florence Russell party. John A Glenn and Florence Russell and daughter Margaret arrived in Parowan to spend the rest of the summer with the Harold Mitchells. The couple lived in Amherst Massachusetts where Russell studied agronomy and plan to depart around September 1 for Lafayette Indiana to enter Purdue University for further study.

Church Doings Highlight Community Help and Visits
About a dozen members of the 69th quorum of Seventies aided a member recently injured, loading and stacking 10 tons of hay from a field to prevent spoilage. The same report notes beans for welfare cannery, garden damage by rodents, and several local visits and travels among county residents, including Rulon Paramore, Sue Dalton, Joyce Halterman, and others visiting family in Provo, Salt Lake, and Parowan.

Canadian Lady Visits Utah After Forty Four Years
Mrs. Sarah Jones Lane of Cantinal Ontario visits the U S for the first time since leaving 44 years ago. She travels with her siblings including Mrs Leone Lyman of Parowan and Mrs Lane. Two hundred family members gathered at Five Mile in Parowan Canyon for a dinner honoring Mrs Lane’s birthday. The group plans to remain in the area through August then tour Southern Utah parks with her siblings.

Mr and Mrs Stephen Brown of Brockville Ontario Canada visited Parowan as guests of Elder Grayson Gurr and his parents the Peter H Gurrs over the past week. The Browns joined the church a year and a half ago being baptized in Ottawa on March 7 1948. They were charmed by the local mountains and plan to return when possible. They left Parowan to return to Canada on Thursday.

Funeral Services Held For Eldon Ted Miller
Impressive funeral services for Eldon Ted Miller were held Saturday in Lie Wert Ward Chapel with Bishop W Loon and Evans conducting. The service included songs by a mixed quartet and remarks by Pres. KR Taylor, Miller, and Kat Mitchell, with many relatives from nearby communities attending. Miller, an Utah Construction employee, died in Milfor Wednesday of a heart attack.

Members of the Paronsi Literary Club held an informal social at Fae Benson’s home in honor of Mrs. Jean Hendrickson who recently became a mother and received a gift from the club. The O N O Club reorganized with Marcella T. Mitchell as president and Edna Brown as secretary. Retiring officers Virginia Lowe and Alice C. Mitchell remain. A canyon party for members and partners was held, with arrangements by Berta Burton Ola Robinson Kathleen Clark Cayma Evans and Hazel Dawn Evans. A guinea party is planned at the E. J. King home with Florence S. Benson as committee chair.
