Parowan City Council Sets 25 Mill Tax Allocation

Parowan city council approved a 25 mill tax split for general fund sinking fund interest on bonds street and sidewalk fund library fund and a citywide subfund change to support the budget. The meeting granted Dr Wesley Bayles two upstairs rooms rent free for one year with free power and heat to attract him here. A campaign to clean streets was discussed with Garden Club partners and a coal licensing fee ordinance for truckers debated and approved. The city election rules and nomination process were reviewed with no new ordinance needed for this fall election.

Dairy Co Stockholders Meet Monday for Board Elections

The Southern Utah Dairy Company will hold its annual stockholders meeting Monday August 7 at 8 30 p m in the county courthouse to elect three new board members for the coming year hear the annual business report and address other plant matters. Incumbent board members T A Topham Warren Pendleton and R A Fenton will be replaced or re elected as terms end two holdovers Samuel Abbott and H L Adams remain on the board. New directors include two two year terms and one one year term with Abbott and Adams to complete the slate. Notices with proxies were mailed to stockholders nearly two weeks ago to maximize representation.

West Ward Primary Homecoming Goes Tuesday

The West Ward Primary Association announces its annual Homecoming on Tuesday August 8 at 8 pm. Children are urged to attend with a dime for a party and display their works. A birthday exhibit will be shown, articles for sale, candy, and a graduation program by the Guide and Seagull group will close the evening.

City to collect tax evictions and public works bills

City officials discussed collecting special improvement taxes from families occupying city taken homes or forcing vacate. The monthly report by the superintendent of public works and the city's bills for the period were reviewed and approved before adjournment.

Parowan Stake Relief Society Convention in Cedar City

The annual convention of the Parowan Stake Relief Society will be held in Cedar City on August 19 and 20 with meetings in the Cedar First Ward chapel. General Board members from Salt Lake City will attend. Programs include executive officer sessions, stake and ward officer meetings, and a Sunday conference with Relief Society programs and public attendance.

Joan TE Pendleton elected president and Charles Elliott chosen secretary of the Parowan Exchange Club at a semi monthly luncheon. They succeed W Warner Mitchy and Claude Orton. The club endorsed a Big Game Control Board proposal limiting local doe deer harvest. Dr. Wesley J Bayles announced plans to open an office in Parowan. Postponed Court Deliberates Bank Assets Split

On regular Law and Motion Day the District Court deferred ruling on the Bank of Iron County surplus assets. The petition seeks to determine if assets should go to depositors as interest or to stockholders. The decision remains under advisement for a future date.

Variety Store Undergoes Interior Remodeling by Owners

Mr Scott Mitchell oversees a major remodeling of the Mitchell Variety Store this week. New counters show cases and shelves arrive from Sprouse Reitz St George while old fixtures are moved out. The project costs nearly 2000 dollars and will finish next week. the store remains open during the work.

Dr Bayles to Open Office in City Building

Dr Wesley L Bayles a University of Nebraska Medical College graduate, finished interne work in Omaha and plans to practice in this community. He secured office space in the bank building, will return for equipment, and is hometown tied to Blandings. He spoke at the West Ward sacrament meeting and at the Parowan Exchange Club luncheon.

East Ward Primary Homecoming Planned for Next Tuesday

East Ward Primary Association announces annual Homecoming at 4 PM Tuesday. Children and parents gather at East Ward chapel then travel to V. W. Heap's pool and orchard for program. Race Meet Plans Nearly Complete

Committees announce plans for a major race meet here next Thursday through Saturday. Seven races daily, track work underway, starting gate arranged, and ads in placards and newspapers. Fights committee aims to feature top local fighters and tickets go on sale soon. Brown Derby dance hall hosts Rhythm Kings for evening dances. Fifteen to twenty horses in training including Dale Rampage Gracie Allen and others, with Bamberger horses from Salt Lake City and entries from Richfield Provo Delta Cedar City Garfield and Kane counties. The meet promises fast horses and draws racing fans from across the region.

Citizens Asked to Fight Weed Menace

At a city meeting the Streets and Sidewalks committee and Beautification committee agreed the only way to remove weeds is for each home owner to clean the street area in front of their property. Aims to urge owners to act before the race meet next Thursday through Saturday and city crews will clear weeded sections along the roadway.
