Dairy Company Reports Yearly Operations and Profits

A synopsis of the Southern Utah Dairy Company's year from August 1, 1927, to August 1, 1928 notes patrons supplied 1,021,302 pounds of milk at 4.17 percent butterfat, producing 46,696.1 pounds of butterfat and $17,511.19 paid to patrons. The company made 197,236.7 pounds of cheese sold at 22 cents per pound, earning $23,592.07, leaving a cheese gross profit of $6,080.97 after milk costs. Cream output totaled 13,444 pounds testing 36.64 percent, yielding 4,927.7 pounds butterfat and $1,925.74 paid for butter fat in cream, with cream sold to B A C plant for a small profit. Operating expenses and building payments reduce the net, and further details will be shared at the annual meeting. Patrons and others are invited to attend.

Dairy Company to Celebrate Anniversary and Plant Improvements

Southern Utah Dairy Company holds open house on Monday August 6 to mark its second anniversary and completed improvements. Visitors can tour the enhanced plant, view dairy cattle exhibits, and attend judging at Paragongsh and Parowan with prominent figures from Utah State and local schools. An 8:06pm stockholders meeting at the County Courthouse room includes talks by Arthur Morris, Dr. Wilster, and others, followed by a dairy lunch.

Death Ends Long Life Of Service To Public

Ella Miller Davenport died last Friday at the family residence from cancer of the liver. At seventy five she devoted a long life to community service and sacrifice, surviving eight of nine children, plus siblings. Funeral held Sunday in East Ward chapel with multiple speakers and musical offerings, tributes to her public service and faith.

Petersen enters not guilty plea in Jones assault case

Henryk Petersen appeared in District Court for arraignment on charges of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the March shooting of Dr. Preston L. Jones. With no counsel present, Petersen admitted Sam Cline of Milford represents him and the case was set for the next term in mid November.

A survey of dairy conditions in Southern Utah begins August 6 led by Dr. Wilgler of the Utah Agricultural College and Arthur J. Morris from the state dairy extension.
