Parowan Matriarch Mary Alice Benson Dies at 80
Mary Alice Klingensmith Benson of Parowan, widow of John Benson, died Tuesday after a brief illness from Bright's Disease. Born March 19, 1857, in Cedar City, she was a longtime seamstress and church worker. Funeral services were held in Parowan with large attendance. pallbearers were six grandsons. She left 27 grandchildren and 7 great‑grandchildren, along with a sister and half brother.

Deer Menace to Parowan South Field Farms
Deer gathered on the foothills south and west of Parowan threaten farms in the local south field. Reports cite herds up to sixty head feeding on the Rasmussen farm this spring. A game warden and Gun Red Chih group Tuesday moved several bunches toward higher ground and counted about sixty five dead in the herds. It remains unclear if driving them away will succeed.

Missionaries Start German Tour to Advance Work Abroad
Elder Arnold 0. Gurr writes from Germany describing the 25 missionaries leaving New York, stops in Plymouth and Le Havre, a shipboard social time, and arrival in Hamburg. Nine remained to join the Berlin mission, with initial assignments to Schoalanke and Schelemuhl areas as they begin missionary work across Germany and Austria.

Big Saving For Those Who Pay Back Taxes
Tax delinquent property owners in Iron County may save up to 6993.42 dollars by paying back taxes for 1932 1933 and 1944 under a liberal emergency measure approved by the twenty second Legislature and promoted by the State Tax Commission The plan lowers interest from 8 to 2 percent for those taxes 1934 and earlier and eliminates the 2 percent penalty for those years but preserves the standard penalty for 1925 and later years County records show total back taxes of 39795 00 with potential savings of 6993 42 and emphasizes immediate action to avoid May tax deed sales and loss of redemption rights

First Presidency Approves Local Seminary Plans
Ward announced last week that the First Presidency has approved plans for a new seminary funded by Parowan. The brick Old English design building will sit on Rex C. Ward’s former lot and include a basement classroom, a main floor classroom, a lounge, library, office, and two bedrooms. Bids and specifications will be issued next week. Leonard C. Neilson of Ball Lake is the architect.

Heart Attack Fatal To Robert Davenport
Robert Davenport a farmer and livestock man died suddenly on Wednesday morning at Pinevalley ranch from a heart attack. He was found by an assistant after arising unwell and a doctor from a nearby camp deemed the death due to heart trouble. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 PM in the West Ward chapel with speakers, music, and prayers as officiated by local clergy. He was born December 21 1873 in Paro Wan and leaves a brother John B Davenport and sister Evangeline Woolley with many relatives.
