Historic Markers Aim for Utah Highway Routes

A state commission plans to erect eight foot markers at key highway sites across Utah. The Associated Civic Clubs of southern Utah, gathering in Moab, endorses marker installations to highlight historic spots. Members will submit lists of sites for review by committees and the association.

Charge Against Shearers Will Not Be Pressed

Deputy District Attorney J K Tuttle announced no complaint will be issued against strike breaking sheep shearers working at Fresno County ranches unless stronger evidence of law violations is produced. A group led by Merrill Thornton faced claims of bringing nonunion workers without warning. Thornton testified he came to Fresno after learning shearers would work under strike conditions and that about ten men he gathered are now at work.

4-H Club Specialist Visits Iron County Leaders

4 H club specialist Ir. Do P Murray spent Friday and Saturday in Iron County with the County Agent to initiate the 1938 4 H club program. Murray notes Hawaii and Alaska total club membership exceeding a million last year and Utah counties reporting 6287 members in 1937 with 998 adult leaders. In Iron County 119 girls in 14 clubs and 39 boys in six clubs last year. 122 of 158 members completed projects and earned pins. Projections indicate similar club activity this year. Mr and Mrs Edward M Falton and family of Delta were here for the serious illness of Mrs Maude M Dalton, who remains in serious condition.

P T A Pre School Clinic May 3 at West Ward Church

The Parent-Teachers Association sponsors a free pre-school clinic on Tuesday May 3 from 3 AM to 12 noon in the basement of West Ward church. In cooperation with the local Medical Association and State Board of Health Dr Burton and a Cedar City physician will examine children and a local dentist will check teeth. Parents with children entering school this fall are urged to bring them unless they prefer their family physician. Appointments may be requested by calling Mrs Harret Mashesin or Mrs Alice Garton. Goal is to detect or immunize for smallpox and diphtheria and ready children for school with no charge.

Easter Pageant Charms Coalville In Northern Utah

The Sunrise Easter pageant at Coalville known as The Miracle of the Resurrection drew about two thousand attendees at Echo Lake site mirroring biblical scenes. Mrs Sharp played Mary Magdalene and David Sharp depicted a Roman soldier. the couple provided details from their account.

Letter from Elder Lettey Adams dated April 26 1935 from Madisonville Kentucky describes life in the Kentucky West district. He notes a branch of about eighty members and conferences across the month, describes travel to Cave City and a Mammoth Cave tour, mentions coal industry downturn affecting local mines, and praises Kentucky’s scenery and hospitality while reporting on missionary work and daily life.

Dalton Named Research Worker in County Utah

Mrs. Lucilla A. Dalton of Parowan appointed research worker for the Utah Historical Records Survey in Iron County. The WPA project builds inventories of public county records with stewards from retiree rolls. Information on early county records should be sent to Mrs Luella A. Deer In Foothill Area Become Serious Problem

Local sport clubs, the state game department and the Forest Service report a large deer herd in foothill areas near the town. Officials estimate over three hundred head graze in the lower range and have nearly exhausted available forage, prompting a drive to push the herd back to higher elevations.

Elder Merrill to Attend Parowan Stake Conference

Elder Joseph F. Merrill of the Twelve Apostles will represent church authorities at the Parowan Stake Conference in Cedar City this Saturday and Sunday. Reception Held for Newly Married Couple Grant Smith

A wedding reception in the Recreation hall honored Mr and Mrs Grant Smith of Beaver who wed last week. The program featured short talks stories and musical numbers followed by dancing with an old time orchestra. Refreshments of ice cream and wafers were served to about seventy five attendees from Beaver Parowan and Cedar City.

County Teachers to stage benefit play Monday night

County teachers will present a play Monday night in the auditorium at 8 o clock to raise funds for student Hody. Thirty prizes will be awarded to lucky numbers with general admission 10 cents for students 25 cents for townspeople and 26 cents for reserve seats.
