Sprinkling improvements planned for Main Street area

The city council approves sprinkling upgrades along Main Street and near the school yard, with fronting work and curb adjustments. Additional blocks will be covered as materials arrive, while new equipment loans and weed and sidewalk trimming gear are being arranged for winter use and maintenance. A power plant monitoring system will record 24 hour data, aiding city oversight while licensing ordinance updates add several new business types since the old rule.

Court grants several divorces and prison sentence handed

A two day court session on Tuesday and Thursday last week ordered numerous civil cases and a criminal ruling. Robert L. Mata received a four year term to the state prison. Parker Ward’s car involved in a case. Fourteen divorces were granted to various parties including Beulah Grant and Myrtle E. Martini. total work included default appearances and attorney fees.

Teachers Association Meeting Set For Monday Night

The Teachers Association will meet Monday night in the school starting at 9 o clock. Mrs Roberta B. Rowley will preside with a program about high school and elementary grades led by A C Hatch. All children are urged to attend.

P H S musicians performed well at a regional music festival on Saturday. The event featured a massed band parade and multiple departments led by Nerwill B Weight, with praise from judges and townspeople for the host St George schools and their community.

Americanism Essay Contest Judged in Parowan

The American Legion Auxiliary judges the State Americanism essay contest on responsibility and privileges. Fifty essays from 23 schools were submitted. Ruth Noall of Boxelder High Brigham City won, with Winifred Olsen of Snow High Ephraim second. National prize is 100 dollars. Judges were Ivan Decker Marguerite Orton and Jean Hendrickson. Parowan High submitted five essays and earned honorable mention.

Echo Skougaard and Joy Pollock Wedding Notice

Mr and Mrs Earl F Skougaard announce the marriage of daughter Echo to Joy Pollock son of Mr and Mrs Harry Pollock of Kanatra Utah. The marriage occurred in Cedar City on April 13 and the couple reside in Logandale Nevada. Echo is a local grad employed in Washington and Cedar City. Little is known of Joy beyond being a returned service man.

Parcells Dies After Operation In Salt Lake Hospital

H C Parcells a leading Parowan attorney and abstractor of twenty five years died early Thursday in Salt Lake hospital after an operation. Survived by widow Maude Brown Parcells son Homer C Parcells Jr and daughter Mrs George P Stowe of Parowan and daughter Mrs Lucile P Morris of Monrovia California. Funeral set for Saturday at 3 30 p m at Salt Lake Masonic temple with burial at Mt Olivet cemetery. Georgia and Homer will return to Parowan to run the family abstracting business.

Parowan FFA Boys Hold Very Successful Show

Parowan FFA students hosted a large chapter fair featuring head of stock across beef dairy swine poultry and sheep with top honors awarded to Jim Benson and Clair Robinson. The event included a hamburger stand and a greased pig contest while members thanked donors and announced new Hampshire ewe purchases. Doyle Rowley returned home after Navy service and a 15 day furlough.

Parowan Stake Conference Planned in Cedar May 5

Parowan Stake announces quarterly conference at Cedar Pet Ward chapel on Saturday May 5. Sessions start with a 6:40 pm stake ward meeting for ward members, followed by a priesthood meeting at 7:43 pm. Sunday sessions include a general priesthood at 4 am, early morning meetings, and a 7:30 pm youth session. Fast Sunday for Parowan East ward will be observed April 28.

Missionary Party To Honor Four Members Thursday Night

A missionary party will be held in the West wand chapel and recreation hall on Thursday May 2 at 8 30 pm. It honors Mr and Mrs Walter Mitchell returning from a six month mission and Mr and Mrs Arthur Joseph departing soon for a six month mission in the Western Canadian field. The program includes short talks and music by the High school chorus and trombone solos. The Eastward bishopric hopes for a large turnout from both wards.

Norman Gilger Marries Pasadena Girl in Las Vegas

Announcement reports Norman Gilger of this city wed Beverly Fulwider of Pasadena California last Saturday in Las Vegas by a ward bishop. They stayed in Las Vegas for a day or two then traveled to Los Angeles for several days to visit Norman's father Hugh Gilger and his brother La Rae at Corona Navy hospital. They will return and he resumes work at Utah Parks Co. The groom is a three year ex service man with time in Belgium France and Germany. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs George Fulwider of Pasadena.

American Legion Race Meet Committees Named

American Legion Post outlines committees for the upcoming race meet to be held July 14 to 20, with Max Hendrickson as chairman of the general committee. Racing, finance, entertainment, and dance groups are led by A B Matheson, W C Wish Rowley, Wm T Orton, and Harrell Dalton respectively, with members including M. Clark, Chester Ward, and Earl W Orton. The event, to be run under the state racing association rules, will feature daily racing with substantial purses, plus dancing and a carnival if possible. Work days at the track are planned to improve facilities, fences, stalls, and grandstand capacity ahead of the Iron County Fair in early September.

Easter cantata The Crucifixion set for Parowan West ward

The Easter cantata The Crucifixion by Sir John Staner will be performed Sunday evening April 28 at 8 o clock in the Parowan West ward chapel. Sponsored by the Cedar and Parowan ward bishoprics, the Cedar ward produced it with Edward A. Sandgren of the BAC music faculty directing. Soloists include Herschell Neeley Chauncey Macfarlane Donald K. Nelson Edward Sundgren and Vernon Jones with Irene M Hyatt at the piano.

West Ward Conference Set For Sunday Apr 28

Bishop W Leonard Evans of Parawan Westsward announces a ward conference on Sunday April 28 with the Parawan Stake Presidency attending all meetings. The main session at 2 20 p m will feature a fire program and talks by stake presidents. Music by the ward choir and practice at 1 30 p m precedes the conference.
