Church and Civic Groups Honor Utah Mother of the Year

Mrs. Luella A. Dalton named State Mother of the Year will be saluted by church and civic groups at a public reception and program Friday evening at the Parowan First Second Ward Chapel. The event, led by Mrs. Phil Benson of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, begins at 8 p.m. with organ music by Barbara Jane.

BYU Outdoor Workshop Sponsored for Safety Education

BYU will host an outdoor activities workshop June 5 to 7 under the auspices of the Utah State Department of Education and multiple agencies. About fifty representatives from fish, game and wildlife groups, schools, youth groups, and press will attend, with BYU and the National Education Association covering two days. Dr. J. B. Nash notes growing outdoor recreation and emphasizes safety, trespass rules, and resource use. Program includes invocations, performances, messages, and a reception open to the public. attendees urged to greet Mrs. Dalton. The event is organized by Parowan Stake, Parowan City, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and Parowan Literary Club.

Utah Fish and Game Commission Holds Annual Meeting

The Utah Fish and Game Commission met in Salt Lake City for its annual spring session April 13 14 approving an opening date of November 10 for pheasant and quail seasons. Four hunting privileges were revoked for five years due to careless gun accidents. The panel also authorized travel for officials to a western states gathering in Vancouver BC and planned four quarterly meetings for the year ahead.

Parowan Chamber Elects Officers for Coming Year

The Parowan Chamber of Commerce elected officers to serve the coming year at a Friday night meeting in the courthouse. Howard Joseph was named president, succeeding Howard Knight. Others named: Robert Mitchell, vice president. Ralph S. Orton, secretary. and board members Jim Barton, J. W. Moore, and Howard Knight. The first meeting for officers and directors will be Saturday night to name standing committees and discuss plans for the year.

Cedar City Spring Art Exhibit Opens April 22

The 14th annual Cedar City spring art show opens Sunday April 22 and runs through May 6 at Memorial Fieldhouse. Dr. Reed Farnsworth chairs the exhibit with guest speaker Dr. Floyd Carnaby of Utah State Agricultural College. Artists from across the nation, including Rene Weaver and Maurice Logan, will exhibit limited to two entries per artist. The event is co sponsored by the College of Southern Utah, Chamber of Commerce and Iron County groups.

Dixie Forest Official Dies Of Heart Attack

Rodney Boyd Leonard, Dixie National Forester staff officer, died of a heart attack at his Cedar City home on Saturday April 14 at about 4 30 p m He had worked at his desk in the Forest Service on Friday until 5 pm and helped in a local tree planting project with Boy Scouts at his neighborhood Funeral services were held in the Fifth Ward LDS Chapel in Cedar City under the direction of Bishop Homer S Jones.

Meeks Dalton Return From Trip to Murray and Salt Lake

PHS Students to Attend Model United Nations Meet

Five Parowan High School students will participate in the second annual Model United Nations conference at Kingsbury Hall on the University of Utah campus. Delegates Alan Daily Alan Dalton Valerie Evans Norma Lee Mercer and Bud Matheson will represent Ceylon and serve on the Economic and Social Council, with Marvin Graff as advisor. Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt will address the assembly Friday at 9:30 am, with all 76 UN member nations represented by Utah high schools.

Medical student Dalton to join Utah Medical Week events

Antoine A. Dalton of Parowan will join University of Utah Medical Education Week activities from April 22 to 28. Dr. Phillip B. Price, dean of the College of Medicine, announced Friday as Gov. J. Funeral Services Held For Sevey Infant

Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the Cedar Second Ward Chapel for Elaine Sevey ten and a half month old daughter of Milton and Irene Lyman Sevey who died April 13 from a virus infection. Burial followed in Cedar City Cemetery. Surviving are the parents three sisters one brother and grandparents Lyman Levey Cedar City and Morris Lyman Parowan.

Paragona Man Remains Critical After Horse Incident

Bill Edwards was seriously injured in Cedar City ten days ago when he fell from a horse and was dragged. He was moved from Iron County Hospital to the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City last Monday and remains in critical condition suffering from spinal meningitis caused by the injuries.

Student injured in rollover crash near Summit
