The general county fair committee, expanded to five members, released committee assignments to department supervisors. James C. Irfos, B. Galten and I. Comittee P A Clark led the committee lineup with the dairy and arts departments assigning supervisors and staff to oversee exhibits and related duties during the fair week.
The Gun and Rod Club 10 announces its annual social and dance at the High School Auditorium tonight starting at 9 0 clock. A brief program will precede a free dance for members and prospective members, with lunch served for 25 cents during the event.
A Parowan boosters delegation led by D. A. Matheson W. Clair Rowley J Mitchell C L Pinder and Arthur Joseph departed Monday for Provo to attend the major Lincoln Highway road convention held there on the tenth. They will be joined in Provo by Commissioner H. L. Adams L. N. Marsden Jr Thomas D. Adams and possibly others from Parowan.
Mrs iwley marked her seventy seventh birthday with a long afternoon gathering of friends and neighbors at her home. The event featured guest wit, greetings, and tributes, with conversations on dairying and local extension work.
Paroway High School agricultural club will plant the first certified Diclow wheat imported to the southern end of the state this spring. The wheat shows a germination of over 98 percent and is described as clean and plump. Club members also work on better flint corn varieties and livestock projects, aiming for higher future yields.
S C Lancaster chief engineer outlines Union Pacific plan for Zion Park hotel a two story three hundred foot long stone structure with octagonal bell tower and five wings to be built from native canyon stone and lumber. officials urge local cooperation promising square dealing and local procurement of livestock produce and labor. hotel expected to generate two to three million dollars in two to three years if roads and attractions are developed.
The general committee lists special premiums for agricultural horticultural and livestock divisions for the Second Annual Rambouillet Day and County Fair. Awards include 25 for the best wheat acre 15 for best irrigated corn 15 for best arid corn 15 for best dairy animal 15 for three day dairy test 10 for sow and litter 15 for garden truck display 15 for farm crops 10 for horticultural crops 25 for sheep. Some premiums may rise or be added. Details on sheep placement and fair notices will appear in future TIMES issues.
Ladies invited to a series of Farm Bureau lectures at P H S on Thursday April 12 with Christine B Clayton Food Specialist. Sessions include chill health for 2 to 10 year olds at 10 and Balanced Family Menu at 7. Membership available for 1.00. Topics cover Foods Clothing The Sick Room with expert guidance under project leaders.
Attorney Parcells and family motored to Lund on Sunday then Cedar City. They left Miss Lucille at Cedar City to attend school and she returned for the weekend. Rail work on the branch line is reported a mile out and progressing rapidly. Olive Evans, wintering in Salt Lake City, is home again. G C Kilgore and wife returned from a business trip to Salt Oak City. Maude M Dalton, Ward Relief Society president, went to Salt Lake City for a DS conference last week.
Students from grade schools and the high school improved the school grounds last week. Gravel was smoothed and loose material removed, and the yards were raked with trash cleared. The effort earns commendation for a wonderful improvement.
All over the City there are evidences of the clean up campaign. Yards, fences, streets, and property generally is taking on a new appearance. Mrs. J Alma Benson, who has been in St George for medical attention for three or four weeks, is home again, feeling considerably better than when she left there. Other renewals during the week are Mr S J Foster of Cedar City and Mr Josh Allen.
Invitations issued by the F. A. N. Club for a dance at the High School Auditorium on Saturday April 14 to raise funds for the Clean Home Clean Town Campaign. Open to all married people and those who ought to be. Special music and decorations. Tickets 75c extra ladies 25c.
The high school held its annual day with whitewashing of the letter on the hill. Pack horses hauled whitewash while students cleaned the campus and decorated for the annual ball. The auditorium was festively decorated for the fall, making the campus look brighter and the event enjoyable.
The mutual activity for April features the three act comedy Sylvia Runs Away directed by W. L. Adams at the Opera House. The cast is praised as one of the best for a local production and members are urged to attend Wednesday April 18 for a clean, witty, action packed performance.
The Bank of Iron County is praised for removing old trees and fence posts from its adjoining property and thoroughly cleaning the area beside the barber shop.
President Carl R. Gray of the Union Pacific System announces that scholarships awarded for county boys and girls in club work are now open to girls as well. Last year offered $75 cash and transportation to the Agricultural College, with possible tuition in 1923. If high school is not complete, the scholarship can be deferred.
A fine meeting occurred on Tatursday April by members of the Stevens family. Stories shared covered family experiences in England and America. From these two Stevens boys there are now many dependents, most living in Parowan.
A compact program lists speakers and performers including Bro. John Stevens as talker, Violet Stevens and Co. in the Ladies Trio, Mrs. Mabel Wilcox for Reading, Clayton Dalton on violin, Joseph E. Ward giving a talk, Sarah Stevens and Co. in the Ladies chorus, Miss Myra Dalton for Reading, Mrs. Violet Stevens solo, Beatrice Hulet with a recitation.
The county fair requests publication of names of appointees to committees and as supervisors as official notice. Members of the General Committee include David Sharp Jr., Jos E Ward, F W Middleton, R L Fenton and Irene C Mitchell for details on duties.
