Adams Resigns as Fire Chief and Orton Named

Adams resigns as City Fire Chief citing personal and health reasons. Ralph S Orton, formerly assistant chief, is appointed chief effective immediately. A sprinkling system for City Park is recommended, funds permitting. Recreation committee funds and summer program planned. Earl Matheson named cemetery caretaker starting May 1 at 225 dollars monthly. Clayton Tullis covers cemetery duties in interim.

Madalyn Leigh Becomes Bride of George Mack Low

Madalyn Leigh Low wed George Mack Low in Beaver in a home ceremony officiated by Stake President Howard D. Knight. The couple, daughter and son in law of Lavar Taylor and the Listers, celebrated with a First Second Ward reception and will honeymoon in the southern part of Utah. The same issue notes the April birth of Evan J. Lister at Iron County Hospital, listing grandparents Sam Pritchard and Clair Lister.

Parowan High PTA names new officer slate

The Parowan High School P T A held its annual officer election in the school auditorium. Mrs Vilate Joseph is president for the coming year with Thales Brown as vice president and Mrs Orilla Lister as secretary treasurer. Board members include Mrs Doris Benson Willie Topham and Emma Mortensen. Retiring officers are Dorothy Rowley Jean Hendrickson Enid Mitchell Dot Smith Ruth Boardman. Doris Benson remains a board member.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt Set for Saturday Morning

The Tri- H Club hosts the Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday morning April 16 at 10 o’clock. First to sixth graders will search the park lawn south of the library while younger children hunt near the First Ward church. Prizes await all. A free matinee follows at 10 for all children, sponsored by Red Hill Wranglers and Parowan Fire Dept.

Parowan Council Hears Water Contamination Report

The Parowan Coordinating Council met April 5 with all civic clubs present to review intermittent culinary water contamination. State health officials advised locating contamination sources before chemical treatment, noting the five mile spring as a possible source. Authorities shut that spring’s output and five working groups were formed to report progress at the May session.

James C Parry Dies At Cedar City Home

James Corlett Parry 79 died at his Cedar City home after a lingering illness. Born May 12 1880 to Edward and Margaret Parry. Married Caroline Arthur November 9 1904 in St George L D S Temple. Active church member and longtime manager of Tron County hospital. Survivors include widow and children Edward A C J Chester Betty McKnight of Cedar City, George Lillian Dobson and Woodrow.

Boy Scout Court of Honor Honors Advancements in Parowan

Advancements and many merit badges were presented at the Brien Head District Boy Scouts of America Court of Honor held in the Parowan Third Ward Chapel on Sunday evening April 10. Dignitaries included Scout Executive Joseph Barney and District Commissioner Wm. R. Grimshaw. the Enoch and Parowan troops earned top badges and service stars. The Enoch Troop No. 336 led with points toward a bake event prize for three consecutive years.

Heart Attack Fatal To Mrs. Zilpha Dalton

Mrs. Zilpha Dalton age 59 died of a heart attack at her home. Born November 1900 in Col. Garceta Mexico to Fredrick and an unnamed Lewis, she lived with Mormon colonists then New Mexico and Kanab. She married E. Meeks Dalton July 4 1917 and was active in Relief Society and American Legion Auxiliary. Survived by husband four sons two daughters 22 grandchildren two brothers and two sisters. Services Saturday at 2:00 pm in the First Second Ward L D S Chapel with viewing after 10:00 am at the family home.

Parowan City Announces Retirement of Clayton Rasmussen

After sixteen years with Parowan City Clayton Rasmussen retires effective April 1. He served as city sexton and cared for the city park and library facilities and will continue as city sexton at a future salary. Mayor Howard Joseph notes the position will be reappointed.

Funeral Services for Cedar City Resident Held at Ward Chapel

A Cedar City resident with ties to Farmington Provo Clearfield and Redwood City Calif leaves 46 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren plus a sister Mrs Winifred Urie. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 2 pm in the Cedar First Ward Chapel with viewing at Jensen Mortuary Friday 7 9 pm and Saturday 11 am until service time.

Exchange Club to Sponsor Tourist School in Parowan

The Parowan Exchange Club plans a six week weekly class to train locals on guiding travelers. Instructors from State officials Forest Service National Park Service and local guides will cover area scenery accommodations history and travel tips. Dates await venue availability with aim to start by May first before tourist season.

Death Takes Father of Mrs Clint Thornton

William Elias Adams died at the Salt Lake City Veterans Hospital after heart surgery and pneumonia. Funeral services were held in Layton with burial at Kaysville Layton Memorial Park. Also noted is birth of a baby boy to Franklin Slack and Sandra Decker Slack, and a brief visit by Coach John V. Benson en route to a St George track meet.

Mr and Mrs J L Dalton Paragonah learn their daughter Captain Ruth Dorothy Dalton 43 died in Paris France from pneumonia on April 13 after hospital care since April 5 Born March 24 1917 in Beaver Utah she trained as nurse at Holy Cross Hospital and served in WWII Japan Korea and France Survivors include four brothers Willard John L Jr David and William Paragonah a sister Mrs Mary Ortner Vallejo Calif and grandmother Mrs Mary Ann Reese Paragonah Funeral arrangements not yet announced.
