Paragonah Families Tense Over Missing Army Flyers

Parents Walter and Robb alert after Lyle W Robb missing in action over Luzon March 14. Thelma Robb in Salt Lake City learns of a special mission report and a War Department telegram confirms. Lyle, a 1943 fighter pilot, flew The Black Widow after joining in 1942 and training in Cedar City area. Cpl Dewey Topham, missing since December, now believed prisoner of war in Germany per letters from prison. Tophams hail from Paragonah and await news as other kin serve in Seattle and France.

Notice from Ogden Utah Chief Mail Clerk to start immediate schedule between Paragonah and Cedar City. Paragonah departs 7:23 am, arrives Cedar City 9:00 am. Cedar City departs 9:24 am, arrives Paragonah 1:00 am. Outgoing mail due in local post office by 7:00 am. Judge Rules On City Water Rights Dispute

At a City Council meeting, Judge Will L. Hoyt ruled in A. J. Dobrusky vs Parowan City that water remains with current owners within city limits but movement of water rights must be authorized by city water officials. The session also covered filing for the 1845 license plate money and an audit report by C. O. Butcherite on city accounts over six years.

John E Edwards Rites Held Last Friday

Funeral services for John E Edwards 68 were held Friday afternoon in Paragonah ward chapel with Bishop J Leonard Topham officiating. The service included two vocal solos, a violin solo by Delta resident Morgan B Edwards, and interment in the city cemetery where the choir sang Slumber. Out of town relatives and Sgt Lloyd Stucki with wife visited Cedar City and Delta areas after a Washington posting.

Snow cover in Dixie Forest watersheds shows mixed depth

Snowfall across Dixie National Forest watersheds varied, with total snow depth and moisture above the nine year average at several sites but lower than last year at Yankee, Bowery, and Ed Ward meadow. Cedar Breaks reports near record water content, while Bryce Canyon remains well above six year averages.

Missing Man Found in Whittier California

A week after vanishing from West Los Angeles, William H. Clark, visiting son Glen in Whittier, was found by police and returned home the next day. Clark, unable to explain his whereabouts, recalled only a few places, as family members arrived from Salt Lake City and nearby towns to aid.

Exchange Club Lecture On America In A World Of Crisis

Dr Creer head of history at the University of Utah spoke to a small East Ward crowd on March 21 about America and a world in crisis. He traced frontier exhaustion and frontier policy evolution, urging world participation in peace and diplomacy, while noting poor attendance and few students present. The Parowan Exchange club plans the next Lyceum April 9 featuring Utah State Agricultural College speakers from Logan with a women trio and musicians. Ivan Decker and local members announce travel to Colonia Juarez, Mexico to visit 87 year old sister-in-law Jane Spilsbury, hoping a 14 month trip.

Tin Can Drive Last Week Highly Successful

The tin can drive organized by Hal vage chairman Ray H Adams and Mrs Joan Hendrickson raised 14638 cans in three days. Six lower grades were told of a Friday free show with cans required for admission. by Friday noon 57 cans per student were turned in. Scott Mitchell supplied the show free of charge and town residents aided the drive. A clothing drive is reportedly underway, but the organizer is not identified yet.

Utah launches the April 9 payroll savings drive for the Seventh War Loan with 83,000 workers in 3 940 firms assigned individual quotas. School stamp and bond purchases begin April 9 with a goal of one $25 bond per high school pupil and $10 in stamps per elementary pupil.

Parowan High School Opera Delights Townspeople

A large crowd of townspeople and students attended Parowan High School’s opera last evening and the night before. The principals and chorus earned high praise for action and singing, new scenery impressed, and lighting and sound effects were near perfect from overture to finale.

Speakers in East ward Sacramento meeting next Sunday afternoon will be Mrs Rosalind Decker and Marvin Groff Parowan high faculty member announced by bishop Jess W Guymon. All ward members invited to attend. Ray Lyman spent days in Salt Lake City over last weekend on private business and recently received a new International truck for his haul to the mines at Picebe Nevada.
