Blanket Raise Slated For County Teachers
The Tren County School District plans a blanket $200 raise for all teachers pending staff approval. The plan would raise salaries from a minimum of 3500 to a maximum of 5000 dollars in Iron County. The board also approved removing two district homes west of Cedar City North Elementary to create direct access to the football field and track. Parowan Chapter of Future Farmers of America sent Thales Brown Jim Talbot David Matheson Kent Whitney and Susan Benson to Salt Lake City for the state convention. Jim Talbot won a $100 Carl Raymond Gray Agriculture Scholarship to USAC or CSA. Kent Whitney earned a $200 Standard Oil of California scholarship for study in any Western state college. Susan Benson competed in the State Sweetheart contest but did not win.

County Receives Class B Road Funds for Iron County
Iron County receives its State Class B road funds for the year totaling 67,526.38, up about 2500 from last year, from automobile license plate sales. County projects include Mounta roads 132 miles 15000 Powell Valley 130 miles 5000 Cedar Valley 155 miles 5000 Escalante Valley 34 miles 7000 Minersville Road 30 miles 7000 and miscellaneous items 15288.73 with a new patrol 13273.65. Total county road funds for the year expected reach 107936.17, with most coming from general taxation aside from class BR funds and about 1000 from the Forest Service. In addition Parowan Canyon will spend 150000 to 160000 from the State Secondary Road Fund, with bids for the section from the end of the present oiled road through Cusesems Canyon to the White Ledges to be called soon. some preliminary work to clear the way will occur in the next two to three weeks after snow melts.
