Red Hill Wranglers elect Rulan R Dalton leader in Parowan

Rulan R Dalton, notable Parowan stockman, was chosen president of the Red Hill Wranglers Saddle Club at the annual meeting Monday night. E J King vacated the post. Dick Tullis and Clair Hulet were elected vice president and secretary treasurer respectively, with Vern Mortensen Mel Eyre joining as board members.

Primary Meeting Set For Monday

Regular monthly inservice meeting for officers and teachers of the Parowan Third Ward Pri mary organization will be held Monday at 8 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carlyle Hulet. Mrs. Arnold Gurr will assist as hostess. The lesson will be given by Miss Virginia Rosenberg.

Last Rites Held For Joseph F. Holyoak

Last rites for 76 year old Joseph F. Holyoak were held Monday afternoon at the Parowan Third Ward LDS Chapel. Died Thursday while en route to Cedar City Hospital. Bishop A Hills Orton conducted, with organ music by Miss Jackie Ward and several musical numbers. Attendees included numerous relatives from Utah and surrounding states. Pallbearers listed among local Holyoaks and friends.

Newlyweds Honeymoon in Arizona in Temple Ceremony

Newly married Willard C. Jones and Trudy Ann Adams were wed in the St. George Temple last Wednesday, with a double ring ceremony attended by families from Parowan and Cedar City. The reception followed at Parowan First Ward Church as the bride wore Chantilly lace and satin, with attendants in blue, green, and orchid.

Parowan Juniors Win Top Spots in Region Essay Contest

Stephen Orton and Jimmie Burt of Parowan Junior High School earned first and second places in Region Six Essay contest. Their essays, judged against Cedar City Panguitch Minersville and Beaver, advance to the state competition.

Iron County Democrats Name Officers and Delegates

Gustive Larson of Cedar City chaired the Iron County Democratic meeting held in Parowan. Mrs Garrs Bentley succeeds Mrs Monty Macfarlane as vice chairwoman. Scott M Matheson Jr and Clarence Miller of Cedar City named secretary and treasurer. The central committee will include the chair and vice chair of each voting district. Iron County’s ten delegates to the State Convention in Salt Lake City May 29 were named, including Larson, Granger, Isom, and several Cedar City and Parowan residents.

Farmers Conserve Program Meeting in Cedar City

Iron County ASC invites all farmers and livestockmen to a Thursday meeting at 2 pm in the Escalante Hotel Ball Room Cedar City to discuss grassroots suggestions for the Agricultural Conservation Program, government cost-sharing for Soil and Water Conservation on individual farms, and related practices. Miss Halterman Seeks Miss Cedar City Crown

Merna Halterman, daughter of Mr and Mrs Clifton Halterman of Parowan, is the sixth and final candidate in Cedar City’s Miss Cedar City pageant. A College of Southern Utah student and former Parowan High School cheerleader, she competes April 6 at Parks Theatre with five other entrants for a spot in the Miss Utah contest.

Funeral Services Held For One Time Resident William Webster Heyborne

Funeral services for William Webster Heyborne 54 a former Parowan resident were held in Cedar City Third Ward. Heyborne general foreman of Utah Construction Co died at his Cedar City home Saturday after a short illness. He was born in Cedar City November 6 1899 to Samuel L and Elizabeth W Heyborn. He married Annabelle Stubbs of Parowan January 21 1921 He is survived by four sons Floyd Dean Gordon and Hal and four daughters Helen Costlett Noriie Smith Beverly Urie and Cleone Heyborne all of Cedar City. Parowan residents attended the services including John Pendleton Chester Stubbs Eric Burchett Claude Butcher Golda Lowder Anna Stubbs Monta Waren Iela Smith and F Van Buren. Van Buren spoke at the services.

Students Win Top Ratings At Speech Meet

Two of the four superior ratings at the Regin Sin speech meet in St George went to Tirowan High School students Jim Miller and Sanford Topham. Junior Misa Joan Lamereaux earned a superior rating for her humorous reading. The trio earned the right to compete at the state meet in Provo this weekend.

United States Department of Commerce reports sportsmen spent six billion dollars last year vastly surpassing drugstore and home appliance sales. About 19 million fishing licenses and 12.5 million hunting licenses were issued across 48 states, with the average sportsman spending just over 300 dollars annually on gear licenses ammo and related items.

Parowan Literary Club will host the Southern District Federated Women's Clubs convention on April 10 at Parowan Third Wave LDS Church. Heber Gurr Joins Guard Unit as Mechanic

Heber Gurr a former World War II Army Captain and resident of the community has joined the 22nd Field Artillery Battalion Utah National Guard headquartered in Cedar City. He is named Master Sergeant in the Beaver Battery of the 202nd and serves as Service Center Mechanic full time for all Guard vehicles in Fillmore Beaver Cedar City and St. Gurr will work from Cedar City per battalion executive E. T. Woolf. He previously served as an ordinance officer in Europe for three years.

Mrs Martha Dalton Celebrates 75th Birthday at Home

Mrs Martha Dalton marked her 75th birthday Sunday by cooking a fine dinner for 35 relatives at her residence. Daughter Mrs Woodrow Decker helped, joined by Cedar City locals Mrs Pearl McConnell Mrs Lara Stapley Mr and Mrs Floyd Evans and their young son, and Mrs Alice Robinson of Paragonah.

Snow Survey Outlines Low Water Forecast for Parowan

Snow measurements taken before recent storms on Bowery Creek drainage in Parowan Dixie National Forest show Yankee Reservoir average snow depth 25.48 inches with 7.6 inches water content and Bowery Valley 18.12 inches depth 5.55 inches water. This equates to 66 percent of the twelve year average at Yankee Reservoir and 62 percent at Bowery Valley. Ranger Wilford Bentley warns that below average March and April precipitation could make this a scarce water year for Parowan residents.

Parowan Students Present Exchange Programs

Parowan High and Junior High students staged exchange assembly programs in nearby communities. Senior High acts traveled to Beaver and Milford High Schools featuring songs by Patricia Urie and Vanda Mitchell, piano solos by Roy Rummler and Barbara Bayles, duets, dances, and readings. Junior High performed in Cedar City with solos, duets, dances, and tumbling. Master of ceremonies Keith Halterman and Stephen Orton led the events, with Mrs. Mary Lyman assisting. Senior High plans future assemblies in Cedar City and Hurricane High Schools.
