4 H Club Awards at Bear Lake County Fair

The Bear Lake County Fair awarded numerous 4 H Club honors across Clothing Canning Nutrition and Livestock divisions. Winners include Ione Budge Maurine Athay Nareese Athay Merlyn Taylor Paris and June Marineau of Ovid in Clothing A and many others from Geneva Montpelier Dingle Noonan and Belington. Judges were Home Demonstration agents and county extension staff.

Reduced Rail Rates Set to Save Idaho Grain Growers

Inter state Commerce Commission ordered railroads serving southern Idaho to cut grain shipment rates to Pacific coast points, effective November 1 1947. Estimated annual savings reach 5000000 to growers from a 1 to 11 cent per cwt cut, based on 47 crop projections with 15000000 bushels moving by rail. American Falls and Power county dry farms are key beneficiaries.

State conservation officers report excellent crappie fishing in the smaller lakes of the Pend Oreille Bassan area. Many of these lakes are said to need heavier fishing to reduce the fish population and balance the ecosystem.

Bear Lake Seminary set to open September 8

The Bear Lake Seminary will open on September 8 with student registration. The schedule includes two sections each of Old Testament, New Testament, and Church History. Regular high school credit is given for the Bible classes and a $2 registration fee covers textbooks, notebooks, and a social program.

State Polio Funds Urgently Needed for Idaho Pool

Checks totaling about 18 500 from 21 of Idaho 44 National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis chapters were sent to the Idaho State Polio Advisory Committee to aid the state in its worst infantile paralysis outbreak. The funds will cover patient costs and expand facilities as 70 cases were reported January 1 through August 24. Kamloops Trout Rival Found In Idaho Waters

Joe Arensdorf of Spivey Kansas caught a 22 pound hybrid silver rainbow trout at Siolley Springs near Lake Pend Oreille, weighing the fish before a justice of the peace. The big fish challenged Arensdorf for over 20 minutes before it was landed.

Mrs Vernon Budge and you left Friday for Logan where they will make their home indefinitely. Ver non left Sunday of last week for St. Louis Mo where he is attending school at present. Bear Lake county farm families plan more than 430000 dollars in new housing over the next three to five years. The Tile Council of America foresees urban comforts such as central heating tiled bathrooms and modern kitchens in rural homes aided by rural electrification. More than 83 percent of Idaho farms already have central station electric service enabling refrigerators washing machines and deep freezes in forthcoming houses.
