Snow and rain marked the opening of the deer season as about six inches of snow fell in the mountains. Cold wet weather persisted Sunday and Monday with slight improvement midweek. Only about half of hunters reported bagging a deer while waterfowl took a back seat to deer chasing.
Dr Manus of the University of Idaho will lead two DDT spraying demonstrations for sheep tick control. One at 9:45 a.m. at Tim Matthews in Liberty, the other at 2 p.m. at Newell Passeys in Georgetown. DDT is shown superior to dipping and all sheepmen are urged to attend.
The Second Ward plans an annual reunion and party for ages over 12 at 7 30 p m October 30 in Emerson school gym. Ward members are urged to attend. Primary age children will enjoy a party at 4 00 p m the same day in the ward hall.
The Paris 2nd Ward hosts a Halloween program and costume party Wednesday night October 31 at 7 30 in the meeting house. The evening features songs poems readings and solos by groups and individuals including Zions Boys and Girls Trekkers and Blazers Alma Burton Beverly Smedley Janice Grandy and others with prayers and closing remarks.
Prim 2c Dale Lauritzen left Wednesday for Salt Lake where he will receive his orders after spending about three weeks at the home of his parents Mr and Mrs Wm Lauritzen.

County Recorder Sam V. Tunks states nine month road and bridge spending totals 12,586.57 dollars from the Road and Bridge Fund against a 23,980 dollar yearly budget. Itemized costs include right of way 1,206.18 dollars machinery purchased 2,361.28 dollars and operating repairs 6,800.56 dollars among others. Labor costs by districts total 1,573.89 dollars bringing the grand total to 12,586.57 dollars.
About 400 Idaho World War II veterans are using vocational rehabilitation and education under the GI Bill, said W. C Nurman of the Veterans Administration in Pocatello. Eligibility depends on service days and disability status, with on the job training, school attendance, and tuition coverage available. Monthly stipends range from 50 to 103.50 dollars, with dependent allowances. tuition caps and additional retraining options apply.

Word reached here this week of the accidental death of Owen Reese 34 year old Bloomington native now of Murray Utah killed by a hit and run driver while walking to work in Seattle Washington on Sunday morning October 14. He leaves a wife and a five year old daughter and his Bloomington relatives extend sympathy.
Idaho Health Director Dr. Ruth Raattama urges families to immunize children for diphtheria and smallpox, monitor schoolchildren, and keep children home when ill. She stresses school hygiene, clean facilities, safe water, and sanitation at home to cut preventable disease spread and reduce epidemics. Increased cooperation with doctors, city officials, and the State Health Department is essential.
Seven Bear Lake county men departed October 22 for pre induction examinations at Fort Douglas. The men named include William Dean Floyd St Charles, William Johnson Rich Paria, Robert Hart Wright Bennington, Clyde L Freeman Montpelier, Reed Lynn Kunz Bern, Claude Kenyon Wilks Ogden, Lyndall J Hoff Georgetown. An induction on October 29 calls for 11 men.

Eugene S. Erickson was discharged from the Great Lakes Separation Center after 42 months in the U S Navy Air Corps 18 overseas in the Pacific theatre. He and his wife and daughter are visiting Garden City with relatives and friends.

Rural youth nationwide will earn 125000 in awards for superior 4 H Agricultural and Home Economic activities. Awards are administered under the extension service of state agricultural colleges and the U S Department of Agriculture.

Fielding High and Star Valley of Afton Wyoming battled to a 19 19 tie Friday afternoon on the local gridiron. Fielding rallied from a 19 0 deficit in the second half aided by Gene Passy and a late 40 yard pass to Sharp Matthews but could not convert the extra points. The team played short handed with several injuries and see Montpelier Bears next week.
