A historic notice invites families to the County Fair, praising its broad exhibits and prize generosity. It urges attendance to benefit agricultural and mechanical interests, while offering wholesome amusements and opportunities for renewed health and morale.
Mrs J N Merkley died Tuesday morning after illness and an operation for appendicitis. Born in Morgan Utah June 463 she married M Merkley of St Charles with whom she lived 27 years before moving to Blackfoot City two years ago. Survived by four sons one daughter and husband. Remains sent to St Charles for interment after arrival at the station in Pari Wednesday evening.
Special from St Charles reports Monday October 2 opening day attendance at 70 percent of pupils from the last census. Many students are absent to help harvest fall crops. Teachers are mostly natives of other states except Mr. H A Findlay.
Lay, a Fielding Academy graduate of Paris Idaho, is praised as a capable intermediate department leader with the new primary instructor from Nevada showing progressive teaching ability. F L Fulton from Pennsylvania oversees higher branches and general grade work. The Bear Lake County Fair at Paris runs October 16 17 18 19 with larger premiums new exhibit building and a busy speed program. University of Idaho professors Ellington and Os Herne to judge fair events. Mr Knapp of Fielding Academy Agricultural Dept to judge all fruit and vegetables.
Rigby Star notes Hon. Alfred Budge, Idaho district judge, as a top contender praised for his record. It cites his 28 of 200 penitentiary prisoners from Bannock county and no reversals in many cases, plus his handling of grave constitutional questions.
The Fielding Academy faculty and students show loyalty to the county fair and plan to assist. The stake and ward choir will present a concert at the Tabernacle on Wednesday night October 1. Renowned talent from the state will perform as preparations proceed. Watch next week's notice.
Hermoine Hart Roberts dies of heart trouble at 8:00 am on October 1 in Bear Lake county after a life in Utah settlements. Born Salt Lake City 1875, she served as public instruction superintendent in Bloomington and was beloved by many. Her funeral featured speakers Jos B Shepherd A W Richards Roy Welker and others, with heartfelt tributes and music. Her memory remains in local hearts.
Bear Lake County children will receive special prices at the Fair with reduced train service during the event. Harness races feature entrants like Silver Slivers and Montpelier with owners and handlers named. lines up include local horses and managers from Logan, Roanoke, and nearby towns for the event.
Boise hosts the Intermountain Fair Rainmakers Festival from October 9 to 15 featuring a big purse of 15,000 dollars, an ostrich exhibit, a miniature Idaho farm, bucking contest, daily band concerts, motorcycle and auto races, balloon ascensions and acrobatic acts.
The last legislature passed a bill making October 12 Columbus Day a legal holiday. It is requested that Thursday October 12 be observed with Bear Lake County schools. Teachers are urged to educate children on Columbus work and its results, suggesting language class compositions.
President John A. Stucks attended Southern Bear Lake wards as a welcome visitor. Attendance at the priesthood meeting rose to a 100 percent high priest turnout. Delegates from the M I T A convention included Bo Robinson Charles H Alley Albert R Weston Elizabeth A Weston and Mary W Crow. John Nebeker and son traveled to Ogden to sell thoroughbred sheep. The Fair Association urges county residents to help make the Fair a success. Lost note describes a black lady’s wave between Faris and Ovid.
