The Spartans start the basketball season Saturday night in a conference tilt against Afton Wyoming. Coach Boothe notes limited practice time but expects the game to help the team improve. JV at 6:30 followed by the varsity game.
November to May schedule lists Emerson PTA Bloomington and Paris Lions Club events. Highlights include basketball games, dances, proms, galas, and leadership meetings across schools and community groups such as MIA MLA FFA American Legion Farm Bureau and junior and senior functions.
Residents shared meals with extended families over Thanksgiving at multiple homes including the Arlo residence in Garden City and gatherings in Rexburg. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Clifford Price, Homer Tunks and family, Pete Grandy, Peter Kirkwood, Gwen Collings, Car Morgan, Maureen Trussell, and Rene Bird, with travels from Yelland Oregon and Boulder Colorado noted.
Pres L Burdette Pugmire and John Longden announce the Bear Lake Stake Quarterly Conference to convene Saturday evening and Sunday with Priesthood Leadership gathering at 7 p.m. in Paris First Ward Chapel. An 8 p.m. tabernacle meeting will include stake leaders and wives, bishops, clerks, elders and married men. General sessions follow Sunday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Seminary serves lunch noon.
Dress up for the FHA Snoball to be held Friday evening in the Paris Pavilion. Theme is Winter Wonderland with music by the Cliffs. Public invited with admission 1.00 per couple and 0.35 for an extra lady.
Mrs. Farrell Johnson and her 13 year old daughter Lana of Laketown suffered minor cuts and bruises when their pick-up truck left highway 89 one mile north of Paris and overturned in a barrow pit. Deputy Geo Ramey said icy moisture from fog caused the skid.
Local residents buzz with Thanksgiving travel and visits. Mr and Mrs Ross Cheney and Sterling toured Idaho Falls. Several families visited Salt Lake City and Evanston for the holiday. Norman Wahlstrom is on leave for ten days. Courting relatives, Lewiston Logan and Fort Worth guests are noted, with multiple extended families making trips to Salt Lake City and Cedar City for gatherings.
Utah Power and Light will supply free electricity for holiday lighting in 123 cities and towns across Utah Idaho and Wyoming. The program runs from dusk to midnight with service wires provided to connect lights. Last year 237,784 kilowatt hours lit 43,044 bulbs in 123 communities including 24 northern Cache Valley towns.
Funeral services for Z. George Nelson were conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier Stair Tabernacle with Bishop David Jensen presiding. The service included prayers, songs, an obituary, speakers Eldon Cook and Dr. R. H. Burgoyne, musical selections by local quartets, and interment at Montpelier cemetery with Matthews Mortuary handling arrangements.
The Paris 2nd Ward Relief Society plans a bazaar on Wednesday December 5 at the 2nd Ward Church starting at 10 a.m. Funds raised go to the 2nd Ward Building Fund. The event invites the public to attend and browse a wide variety of articles.
A baby boy was born November 26 to Mr and Mrs Loyal Lauritzen. Numerous local families from Galt Lake Parma and Montpelier shared Thanksgiving meals and weekend visits with relatives and friends including the Sleight Collins Budge and Bird families. BYU and USAC connections appear in travel home for the holiday.
Fielding High School’s Future Farmers of America unit earned the bronze national chapter award at the national convention in Kansas City. The honor reflects a written program of work with event calendars, officers, and committees, plus effective follow through. National awards include gold, silver, and bronze categories across the United States.
Paris Volunteer Fire Department announces a home safety drive stressing in home fire alarms and extinguishers. Chief Geo Ramey says letters will be sent to all area homes and two week follow up visits will show units best suited to each home. Campaign committee includes Glen Grimmett Bob Allison Alfred Rogers and Ralph Sleight.
The Bear Lake Stake Speech competition was held Sunday evening November 25 at the Parla Second Ward Chapel with a large crowd. Three judges, two groups judged separately. winners include Ann Miller and Eldeen Hymas for the younger and older divisions respectively.
The Rainbow Rod and Gun Club will meet Monday evening December 3 at 8 o clock New officers will be elected at this meeting A wildlife film will be shown and refreshments served.
Bear Lake Bear Lake Soil Conservation District announces a December 3 program at Montpelier City Hall at 8 pm with speakers Bill Groyd and D L King. Melvin Lauridsen notes musical numbers a film premiere and refreshments. co sponsors include county agent division Oil Conservation Service and Bear Lake Stockmen Association. Three candidates Silas L Wright Peter Nielsen Jesse Orchard seek supervisor seats. Wright’s term ends January 1967. Voters must own rent or contract land in the district and both spouses may vote.
The Mountain States reports Telephone of fice at 76 Washington Street Montpelier invites residents from Paris Montpelier and Victo ing to an open house December 3 and 4. A door prize favors and refreshments will be served.
The Wilson School PTA met on November 26 at the schoolhouse in St. The program featured a panel discussion on adolescence and parenting with 8th grade students Richard Arnell Jean Bunderson Joan Bunderson Glen Floyd Loje Hemmert Loran Hirschi C Maerilyn Mattson Bette Peterson Chad Pugmire and parents Eldon Mattson Verona Bunderson LeRoy Hirschi Emma Peterson. A novelty number was performed by Bette Peterson. Shirley's room won the prize. Refreshments were served.

Frank Osborne Nye 84 died at a Montpelier hospital after a lingering illness. Born July 24 1872 in Providence Utah he married Catherine Maughan in Logan Temple 1897 and served a mission in California 1897 to 1899. He moved to Cache Valley in 1900 and later Paris Idaho, widowed in 1923, remarried to Aratanie Astle in 1929. Survived by widow Catherine and nine children, 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, plus three sisters. Funeral held at Paris Ward Chapel November 28 with burial in Paris Cemetery.
Fielding PTA held a November meeting with 120 members and guests. Presila Lewis led the session with a youth program supervised by Mrs. Gilbert Hull for the Paris 2nd Ward MIA engaging 60 youths. The later Parents Day program on November 16 featured John Findlay directing prayers and songs, Weldon Grandy delivering the welcome, and Dr. Jacobson from USAC joining a panel discussion.
Local residents visited relatives and hosted Thanksgiving meals. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Robert Talbot with daughter from Montpelier, Archie Bee family, LaVell Ward hosts, and multiple pairs sharing feast at Cloyd Minor, Ronald Thornock, and other homes. Birth news noted with McKay Bateman baby daughter in Inglewood, California.
