A wartime appeal urges Americans to conserve sugar due to looming famine. The Department of Agriculture and Food Administration urge households to cut sugar use by one third until January, using home guidance, alternatives, and dietary changes to support Allied needs.
The death of John Hymas in Liberty Idaho on November 8 1917 closes a long life marked by early move to America in 1841 and Utah pioneer work. He married twice producing a large family and extensive descendants. A public funeral in Liberty featured several speakers and musical selections.
A Monday Tyceum program at the opera house drew a large appreciative audience. The evening offered a pleasing variety with tasters and less classical works. Daa' Means impressed as an impersonator and Eve Anderson charmed as violinist pianist and singer with skill and expressive performance.
A Tuesday evening crash report cites Walt Poulsen of Lanark and three friends in a Ford near the river bridge with the car transforming into a toppled challenge before the men freed it. Mrs Sarah Van Almen wife of FE Van Almen died suddenly at Montpelier after a day of ill health. Born in Paris July 2 1885 she was active in church work and leaves husband two sons her parents and siblings. Funeral held at Montpelier first ward meeting house with tributes from speakers.

State Council of Defense at Boise debates enforcing vagabond laws to compel idle men to work, aiming to protect crops and support soldiers. Legal committee recommends using statutes to arrest those able to work but refusing, to mobilize labor for fruit, potato, and sugar beet harvests.
