Mrs. Geneal Bird Sparks, 30, of Nampa Idaho, was struck by a truck and killed Monday in Portland Oregon while crossing to a hospital for treatment. Survived by husband Bruce Sparks two sons Bobbie 8 Ronald 4 father Walter Bird Paris sister Leah Tunks Portland brothers Bedford Portland and Ensign Ronald US Navy New York. Burial plans not set, but body likely returned to Nampa for services and internment. Walter Bird left for Portland.

Fish Haven Relative Receives Purple Heart
Mr. Thomas Smith of Fish Haven received the Purple Heart from Pfe Fay N Loveland for bravery. He was wounded in France while serving with paratroopers. Loveland, born in Montpelier, graduated from Fielding High School in Paris and joined the service in August 1942. He trained in North Carolina and Georgia. He has a brother, Gerald Loveland of Ogden, and is the grandson of Alice Loveland and J L Nelson of Mish Haven.

Auditor Sam V Tunks reports 865 absentee ballots were sent from the county. By week’s start, a little over half had been returned. Three hundred seventy four ballots were for service members, of which 218 were returned. Civilians requested just under 300 ballots.

Former Paris Boy Wounded on Peleliu Island
Er E S Budge Jr born in Paris Idaho in 1907 served eighteen months with the First Marine Division in the South Pacific. He landed on New Britain and Peleliu where a right shoulder wound sent him to a hospital ship. He volunteered to aid the wounded before being taken off. Budge family natives of Paria.

Eight Mile creek in Bear Lake county closed October 1. The hunting period lasts until November 10 in a large state area, allowing hunters to fish during hunting season.

Fielding High under coach Willmore won 13-0 on a drizzly Tuesday afternoon at Soda Springs. Bob Parker and Charles Hulme scored in the first half, Fielding struck late in third quarter, Curtis Anetin had a long run negated by a clipping penalty after an 85 yard TD. Wallace Stucki and Louise Miss Louise Bartschi exchanged vows October 26 in California. The groom’s parents, Pres. and Mrs. E. W. Stucki, announced the marriage. Mrs. Stucki is a Fielding High School graduate who spent the summer with her parents Leo and Bartschi in Sharon. The groom served a Spanish American mission with the LDS church for two and a half years after attending Ricks College.
