Mother's Day dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Vernon Bateman included Ray Bateman and Linda of Bloomington. Numerous visitors came to Logan for family events and a new son born May 11 in Logan LDS hospital to Mr and Mrs William Zollinger of Logan. Other notes cover nursing student Cheryl Hansen's award nomination, various family visits across Utah and Idaho, and local temple and graduation events.

Matthews Named FFA District President in Southeastern Idaho

Kelly Matthews was elected FFA District President for southeastern Idaho for 1961 62 at Malad on May 4. He will join the State FFA Executive Committee and supervise eight chapters, plan district contests, and aid chapters in projects and officer training. Matthews has held multiple FFA roles at Melding Chapter and earned the State Farmer Degree.

Weekend Guests Fill Russell Athay Home and Area Events

Montpelier residents Mr and Mrs Tearle Athay and their boys hosted Sunday dinner with Russell Athay. Ira Peterson of Montpelier joined them for supper. Peter Jensen attended a Veterans Club banquet in Salt Lake City and received a 20 year pin. Robert Jensen of Ogden visited his brother. Hobbs, Stucki of Paris, and Pugmire of St Charles attended the state track meet in Boise and placed fourth. Other attendees included Tat Miller Rexburg and Ronald Morgan Liberty at Girls Day Dance Rexburg College. Memorial Day flowers were collected by Weyn Bird, DeWin Hansen, and Mrs. Alfréd in Brigham City.

Lions Club Run to Raise Funds With Brooms and Glasses

The Lions Club invites the public to donate unneeded glasses and buy brooms to support sight preservation. Volunteers will canvass the city on Monday evening May 29 to collect donations and sell brooms, with members delivering if missed.

Cooking School at Fielding Draws Good Attendance

About 212 homemakers and home economics students attended a cooking demonstration by General Electric Utah Power and Light and Bear Lake County Extension Service. Betty Jean Clements demonstrated modern meat cookery with colorful, tasty results. Winning dishes included JoAnn Taylor electric skillet fried pork chops, Mrs Leon Beck cracker crumb pie, Candance Pedersson curried turkey, and Mrs John Roberts baked ham.

Minnetonka Cave Open for Weekends and Memorial Day

Minnetonka Cave will be open to the public this weekend May 27 and 28 and again on Memorial Day May 30. Additional tours are planned for June 3 and 4. Guide service will run tours at 9 00 11 00 1 00 3 00 and 6 00 p m with Paris Lions Club leasing the cave from the U S Forest Service. Special groups may schedule weekends before June 10 through the cave committee.

Lake Town Ward Bishopric Reorganized At Conference

At a Lake Town Ward Conference on Sunday May 14 the Stake Presidency directed the bishopric reorganization. Bishop Norman E Weston was released after ten years as First Counselor to Bishop Amos Robinson and Delmas Kearl was named First Counselor. Wendell D Johnson and Clayton Robinson were replaced. Harold F Johnson became Bishop with Harold J Lamborn as Second Counselor and Albert Ivan Weston as Ward Clerk. The outgoing members were thanked for their service.

Lyman Hymas Dies in Salt Lake City After Long Illness

Lyman Hymas, about 70, died Tuesday evening at his daughter's home in Salt Lake City following a long illness. He was a longtime resident of Bear Lake County and active in the church as a High Priest for many years. More details will appear in next week's paper.

Control Lich on Sheep Says County Agent

Dipping sheep in lindane solution is advised to control lice, says Bear Lake County Agricultural Agent Hyrum G. Johnson. Infestations have risen across Idaho this spring with blue and small biting lice. cooperative dipping or spraying programs use 13 ounces of 25 percent lindane per 100 gallons of water for one treatment. Mr and Mrs Ronald Parker and Mr and Mrs George Parker were visitors in Logan on Wednesday.

Home Tour Draws Many Viewers In Bear Lake County

The third annual home tour sponsored by Bear Lake County Home Demonstration Council and Extension Service drew 66 county women on May 11. Groups started at Montpelier City Hall then visited four homes in Montpelier and Georgetown, noting remodeled kitchens and an all electric Georgetown apartment. Electric heating experts from Utah Power and Light explained the new system during the visits and at a post tour tea.

Montpelier Man Found Dead After Fishing Trip

Woody W. Puckett a Montpelier resident and utility worker was found dead near a canal at the Utah Power and Light site Tuesday afternoon around 1 30. He and two companions had traveled from Montpelier to fish and cook lunch. Deputy Sheriff Bernard Wilkes and State Patrolman Jerry King assisted in the investigation.

Iota Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Meets in May

The Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma held its season closing meeting May 18 at the Cedar View Supper Club with 23 members. A Necrology Service memorialized Roma Anderson, charter member, with readings and song. Guests from Bancroft and local members performed musical numbers as plans for the Welser state convention and Sun Valley regional gathering were discussed. George Warren Dies After Brief Illness

George Warren prominent Montpelier political and civic leader died in Montpelier hospital after surgery. He served Bear Lake County in the state legislature and was a past election candidate losing to Mr. Cook. Warren was active in Red Cross charity and local civic work. Funeral services were held Monday with Matthews Mortuary in charge.

Lightning Strikes Two St Charles Homes During Storm

During a brief electrical storm in St Charles, two homes were struck by lightning. The Lovell oBoth and the Junior Pugmire family homes had insulation burned from wiring and both filled with smoke. The same two houses were reportedly hit about a year ago.

Kit Kat Cafe Owner LaGrand Jensen Dies in Montpelier

LaGrand Jensen, owner of the Kit Kat Cafe in Montpelier, died Friday afternoon at Montpelier hospital after being ill at home. He was a well known local figure with ties to the Montpelier business community and nearby areas.
