Eighth Grade Graduation Held At Tabernacle Today

One hundred fifty students will graduate this afternoon at 1 30 p m in the tabernacle. County schools send pupils to receive diplomas marking the end of their common school education. The program includes invocation song and address, diploma presentations by Superintendent J W Wright and remarks by D L Roberts, with benediction.

Openings in Marines for Young Men

The United States Marine Corps invites enlistments for many young men from the Baltic Northwest in June and July. The four year term requires U.S. citizenship ages eighteen to twenty five with no dependents and good character. Minor consent needed. Opportunities include Marine Corps Aviation and guards on battleships heavy cruisers and carriers. Recruit training occurs at San Diego before transfer. Information from local postmasters or the Portland Oregon recruit office at 208 U. S. Court House.

Marie Lewis to wed Ernest Armatage in Salt Lake Temple

Mrs. Frank Lewis announces the marriage of her daughter Marie to Ernest Armatage son of Mrs. Zina Armatage of Georgetown. The wedding will take place June 14 at the Salt Lake L D S Temple.

Garden City Man Dies at Paris

Arnold Walter Brooker 25 of Garden City Utah died Monday after a daylong pneumonia battle at his in law's home. Born July 10 1918 in Garden City he was the son of A H Brooker. He married Viola Lewis November 4 1935 and they had one daughter Marjean. Survived by wife daughter mother and several Garden City relatives. Body at F M Williams Mortuary.

Grasshopper control program to start in Bear Lake County

John Zukel reports Bear Lake County will implement a grasshopper control program with U S government supplied bait and a county mixing plant at Montpelier Coal and Lumber. Jim Simmons leads mixing. twenty five tons prepared as needed for each farm with early morning or late evening application after egg beds hatch around June 1. No extra charge for mixed bait. farmers order through Simmons.

Noxious Weeds Remain a Problem for Farmers

Noxious weeds hinder farmland reducing productivity and value. The county plans to restart the weed control program using the prior year's setup. Program to distribute bait on public lands schedule set

A planned program allows limited bait distribution on state, public and county lands. Oats require prepayment, a saddle horse, and participation with the group. Tribal survey staff will accompany riders at multiple locations and times from May 25 to June 1.

Marshall Hired by City Council in Paris

Paris city council elected Lester Allredt as city marshal for a two year term beginning June 1. Several applicants were considered before the appointment. Ezra Passey remains city water inspector after previously serving as city marshal.

Paris Plans Summer Playground Program for Children

Under Ezra Roberts, Paris recreational director, school age children will join supervised playground activities this summer. Sessions start at 1:00 PM on Monday the 29th and continue each weekday except Saturday, 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Adults softball runs 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM daily. Parents urged to cooperate. educational classes offered for enrollees.

Paris property owners may have sidewalks built if they furnish materials. The WPA will provide all labor for the walks and also curb and gutter construction under the same plan.

Seminary Graduation Exercises Set For Bear Lake Stake

The Bear Lake Stake Seminary class will hold graduation Sunday at 8 pm in the stake tabernacle. Prominent Paris Man Dies After Long Illness

Otto Rohner 63 prominent Paris citizen and local coal dealer died of heart ailment at his home after a lingering illness. Born July 30 1875 in Switzerland he joined the L D S church as a child and lived in Bear Lake county. Survived by five daughters and two sons and nine grandchildren. funeral held Monday at 2 00 p m in the Paris Second Ward L D S chapel with services by the bishopric and mortuary.

Fish Haven Girl to Graduate From U of I

Beatrice Wayne Warner of Fish Haven is among 590 candidates for degrees as Idaho's 44th annual commencement on June 5. She seeks a bachelor of arts.
