Voters Approve Plant Facilities Levy in Bear Lake District

On May 20 voters in School District 33 Bear Lake County approved a 5 mill levy to fund plant facilities. The measure carried 635 yes to 213 no, a 74.9 percent approval. J Richard Burgoyne ran unopposed in Trustee Zone 3 and won 78 votes to fill the vacancy from Calvin Smis. Phil Hulme and William A Jenson contested Zone 5. Hulme won by 75 votes despite carrying only one precinct.

Daily use passes replace on-site sales in Cache NF campgrounds

The Land and Water Conservation Fund Act returns this season with daily use tickets at campground dispensers for $1 and Golden Eagle Passports at ranger stations. Violators are cited. funds split 60 percent to states for land acquisition and 40 percent to the Federal Treasury for acquiring private lands near public recreation areas.

Montpelier Creek Dam Work Set to Resume June 2

Construction on the Montpelier Creek dam will restart June 2 led by Rogers Construction Co under Montpelier Irrigation Co. The May 14 conference reviewed grouting bedrock, core trench work, grout needs around 4650 cubic feet, and weather pauses with completion expected around November first.

Judge Kelly Pearce to address Bear Lake High graduates

Probate Judge Kelly Pearce of Bannock County will deliver the commencement address at Bear Lake High School. Amos B Hulme, former educator and current county official, will be the featured speaker for Memorial Day observances at the Bear Lake LDS Stake Tabernacle. Bear Lake High's 125 graduates include four top students with 4.0 and 3.974 GPAs.

Bear Lake County Declared Brucellosis Free

Bear Lake County was certified brucellosis free after treatment and eradication work by the USDA Animal Disease Eradication Division and local veterinarians. A certificate was presented to the Board of County Commissioners by County Agent Hyrum G. Johnson at the recent meeting. Certification runs from December 23, 1968 to December 19, 1974.

Caribou County Wins 9000 Planning Grant

The Idaho Department of Commerce and Development funds a 9000 grant plus 4500 county match for Caribou County to support a comprehensive area planning study. Base mapping aerial photography surveys will map land use while a public facilities analysis covers schools parks health and transit. An economic housing study reviews past and future industry and overall county potential.
