County Eighth Grade Graduation Exercises Held Today
The thirty eighth annual graduation for County Eighth Grade District schools took place at Paris Stake tabernacle on Thursday May 17 at 1 30 p m The program featured invocations by Rosa Lee Johnson Ovid songs including Star Spangled Banner and Tyrolean Duet, talks by Moore Lindsay Ralph Athay Max Haddock and others, vocal duets by Nona Wright and Rowena Burdick, diploma presentations by D C Rich and benediction by Ted M Daniels.

Thurber Promoted to Staff Sergeant in Italy 15th AAF
Ross Thurber 19, son of Mr and Mrs J B Thurber of Dingle Idaho, promoted to Staff Sergeant after flying over 30 combat missions as waist gunner on a 15th AAF Liberator. A 1944 Army entrant and Aldrich High School graduate, overseas since December, he holds the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.

President Heber J Grant Dies at 88 After Long Service
Heber J. Grant, seventh president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died at his home Tuesday evening at 6:30. Born November 22, 1856 in Salt Lake City, he held key roles from youth, becoming youngest stake president in Tooele at 23 and later leading missions in Japan and Europe. He became president of the church in 1918 after a career as a council of twelve apostl es member, shaping early 20th century LDS leadership.

Wounded Soldier Home on Convalescent Furlough
Richard K. Long, wounded March 1 in Germany with Hodge's 1st Army, is home on a 60 day convalescent furlough with parents, wife, and two children in Sharon. He faced enemy fire while returning to safety and collapsed from loss of blood at an aid station. He holds Good Conduct, ETO Combat, Purple Heart, and Presidential Unit citations. After furlough he will return to Menlo Park, California for hand reconstruction.

Brimhall Aces Air Force Fitness Test
Lt Preston Brimhall, a former Paris Idaho basketball standout now in the Fourth Air Force, posted a perfect 100 percent on the Physical Fitness Rating test. He totaled 114 sit ups 24 chins and a 41 second shuttle run pace, described as possibly the first perfect score in the Army Air Forces. Brimhall, a 6 foot 1 inch 178 pound P-38 pilot, previously earned a basketball Player of the Year nod and was a four letter athlete in high school. He said he just did his best and had no idea of a perfect score.

Willard Stucki Enters Parachute Riggers School
Willard Stucki, husband of Ada M. Stucki of Paris Idaho, enrolled at Lakehurst Naval Air Station to begin three months of training at the Parachute Riggers School. The class combines sailors and marines, teaching packing and repair of Navy parachutes with a graduation jump from a Navy blimp.
