Samuel Matthews 80th Birthday Celebrated by Family

The Matthews family marked Samuel Matthews 80th birthday at his Liberty home on May 4 with a meal and sociable time. Sixty one relatives attended, including Harrison Matthews, Charlotte Marrus of Oakley, and daughter Elizabeth Toomer of McGrath, Canada. Born May 4, 1843 in Bedfordshire England, Samuel led a life spanning emigration from England to Missouri then Utah, with early hardships including the loss of his mother at sea and a lengthy journey to Salt Lake City as a youth.

Commencement Exercises at Tabernacle in Fielding High School

Twenty seven students are to graduate at Fielding High School with a program led by Peter G Johnson of Blackfoot. The ceremony includes music, a principal's report, diplomas, and an educational address. Afternoon sports and an alumni ball are planned at the Paris Pavilion.

Biography of Mr Matthews Bishop and Pioneer Family

Mr Matthews and companions arrived in 1870 to aid in settling Bear Lake. He lived in Liberty from June 1883, served as Montpelier ward bishop for two years, married Annie Kennington in February 1884, and fathered 14 children with 84 descendants recorded including 67 living.

Pioneer Leader John Grimmett Dies After Long Illness

Obituary for John H Grimmett born May 16, 1868 Salem Utah. Died Paris May 1345 after months of illness from bronchitis following a flu attack. Survived by his wife Nate, seven children and many in Paris and Cedar Valley communities. Legacy cited includes farming, stock raising, carpentry, and pioneer efforts in Utah development. Funeral services held with Bishop Alma Fingent presiding. interment in a local city cemetery.

John Grimmett aged 65 died May 16 with a long record of church service and public duty. A vourtilor to Bishop Humphreys of Dingle, he served over 16 years and held many church roles.
