Idaho Falls hosts the state Democratic central committee meeting. St Anthony chosen as 1930 convention city with August 26 date set. Delegates from 23 counties report optimism for the party ticket.
Roy A. Welker principal of the Paris L D 8 Seminary departs for Rexburg to speak to the high school graduates on Tuesday May 22. He then addresses Georgetown High graduates on May 28. Last Friday he spoke to Agricultural College Logan Utah graduates. H B Whitman Montpelier merchant attended sale of county delinquent tax property Tuesday.
Edmund Trinder 55 of Boise died when a tire blew out sending his car over on the highway between Soda Springs and Montpelier. His wife and child were injured, with Mrs. Trinder suffering a wrenched back. Wendell Odd Fellows lodge to handle funeral arrangements.
Registration opened for the August 5 primary with July 26 deadline at 9 p.m. Bear Lake County lists twenty precinct registrars including Wm Mouritsen Bennington Mrs Libbie Welker East Montpelier and others guiding citizens through the voter registration process.
May Lee Jones of Montpelier dies May 8 after months bedbound. Born March 21 1870 in Tooele Utah she wed Franklin Jacob Jones June 7 1893 Paris Idaho. Survived by husband five children seven grandchildren and numerous siblings. Active War Mothers member remembered for strength and generosity.
Notice from State Traffic Officer O A Monson warns car owners to renew light certificates and fines threaten arrest for faulty lights. Montpelier Motor Co is named as the official light testing station for Bear Lake County.
M G Price, manager of the Novelty Theatre, has secured backing and travels to Salt Lake City to arrange new talking equipment. The facility is to install the latest talking cinema tech as silent films fade from view.
Fielding High School classes have debated whether to abolish trial by jury. The final debate to determine winners will be held Wednesday evening May 21 in the school auditorium. Public invited to attend.
The Malad Post of the American Legion will hold a district convention in early June and is booking a banquet with plates set at 1.50 each. The notice is from Earl Shepherd, adjutant, reporting convention chairman communications. A separate clipping notes a Chicago man murdered his wife for extravagance, and comments on not endorsing drastic methods.
Emerson school ends the year on Friday May 23 with a PE demonstration for patrons at 8 oclock led by Mrs Beatrice C Price. The program features grade level dances drills and rhythmic and clown dances among others concluding with a patriotic march and a lamented note about Willie Brace and his wife Stella.
The Paris Seminary will hold its eighth annual graduation in the tabernacle at 7 30 p m Sunday May 25. The program includes organ prelude, marches, singing, addresses, diplomas, and a doxology. Graduates listed include Oleneth Arnell through Ruth Welker with officers and committee members named.
Principal M D Low sets Thursday May 29 as closing day for Fielding High School. Commencement at 8 pm in the stake tabernacle features 48 graduates from the new building alongside an A L Merrill address. The program includes orchestral pieces, vocal and instrumental solos, a valedictory, diplomas, and a senior class chorus. An afternoon band concert and 2 pm athletic events conclude the day.
Paris Lions Club will host a 7 30 breakfast Wednesday morning May 21 for about 100 guests as part of a good will tour of southeastern Idaho. The program includes the University of Idaho Pop Orchestra and faculty plus eight five minute talks, four by tour members and four by Lions Club members, followed by a visit to dairy herds and farms near Paris.
The M A district contest for southeastern Idaho is scheduled for Saturday May 17 with five stakes Bear Lake Montpelier Star Valley Bannock and Idaho to compete. Morning events include music and declamation with public speaking for M and gleaners plus junior stories. drama in the afternoon and dancing in the evening.
Funeral services for Charles William Brewer 61 Salt Lake City will be held at 3 p m today in the L D S LeGrand ward chapel Bishop John H Russell officiating Burial will be in Wasatch Lawn cemetery He was born October 4 1878 in Paris son of Charles B and Mina E Wilhelmsen Brewer He was a Utah State Agricultural College graduate and recently managed the Service garage with Ray L Peck He belonged to Kiwanis United Commercial Travelers Elks and Knights of Pythias Surviving are his widow Rose M Brewer two sons Charles William Brewer Jr and Robert Brewer both of Salt Lake City and siblings George John Brewer Mrs Joseph Bunderson Mrs Landon Pugmire and Mrs Thomas Rich.
The local American Legion post, aided by W P Fuller Paint Co of Salt Lake and Shepherd Hardware and Implement Co, has been furnished paint to paint a sign directed by the Guggenheim Foundation for guiding planes over Paris. Ezra J Hoge leads the painting on the new high school building with help from other ex service men.
