Commencement for seminary graduates will be held Sunday evening May 22 at eight o'clock in the tabernacle. Invitations go to Bear Lake and Montpelier stakes and others may attend. The program features singing, prayers, addresses, diploma presentation, and a closing chorus led by Prof. Irwin Jensen. Names of graduates include Ariah Bateman, Blanche Bateman, Ephriam Miller, Gwen Price, Norene Vallentine, Orel Ward, and many others.
Hyrum S. Rich Jr a resident of Afton Wyo and formerly of St Charles was found dead in his granary Tuesday afternoon death apparently from heart failure Rich had been dead about ten ten minutes before services were held Saturday
Miss Caroline Johnson 46 of Ovid died after an operation at a hospital in Idaho Falls. She was born in Ovid and lived there most of her life. A member of the L D S church she served as counsellor in the Ovid ward relief society. Surviving are brothers and sisters and several aunts and uncles. Funeral services were held at the Ovid ward chapel.
Notice that Dr A L Chilton will not make his usual June trip because he will be in Los Angeles for postgraduate work. Readers are advised to see him on May 20 and 21.
Alman Crane ten year old son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Crane of Bennington was instantly killed Friday at about 630 am when a 30 30 rifle was accidentally discharged. The bullet pierced the boy s head and practically blew off the top of his head. He was in a field with a companion when the manner of the accident was not determined. The Crane family is well known in the area with land sheep and livestock interests.
Party including Lester Allred Ezra Allred and daughters Lasca Opal of this city Parley Allred of Preston and D T Thomander of Taylorville Utah attended Hyrum Rich Jr funeral in Afton Wyoming. Snow over Montpelier to Afton measured four feet and the return trip via Ririe took eighteen hours amid travel trouble.

Rock Springs Wyoming May 8 Coop er and Brooke wool clip sold this week to Silberman Brothers for 81 cents a pound flat. The price is several points lower than earlier district sales but higher than current rates in other Wyoming districts.

At a recent council meeting the Paria City government was organized for the ensuing two years. All new members have taken oath and aligned with the old members. The council formed standing committees with members named for Finance, Road and Bridge, Water Works, Law and Order, Ordinance and Printing, Tax and License, Cemetery, Building, Parks and Playgrounds, Board of Health, City Attorney, City Physician, and City Marshal.

Samuel Matthews, longtime Bear Lake valley resident and patriarch, died Friday at his Liberty home. Funeral services were held Monday at the Liberty ward chapel with Bishop Wm R. Morgan presiding. Survivors include eight children and several relatives. Born May 4, 1843 in Bedsford England, Matthews crossed to Utah as a youth, helped drive cattle to Salt Lake, and served as bishop of Montpelier in 1883 then as Bear Lake Stake high council member in 1915. He helped organize the Bear Lake State Bank and was active in ecclesiastical and community life.
Bear Lake Stake Mutuals sharpened for the Stake M I A contest in Bloomington on May 14 with public speaking girls choruses male quartets and horse shoe pitching in afternoon events starting at 1 00 pm. Winners from three Bear Lake districts will attend as stake honors. An evening program features one act plays and a dance of the lancers with a free lunch provided between sessions. A dance at Bloomington Hall on Friday evening May 13 is highlighted as a major M I A event.
Parents are invited to join a starting-out program for a city wide grade school orchestra. Beginners will receive two weekly practice sessions after May 31 with no charge for initial instruction. Parents may borrow a standard instrument or hear the group on May 19 to decide if it’s worth pursuing.

A Bear Lake Valley crowd honored Mrs. Elizabeth Lewis on her 80th birthday at the Second Ward Hall. Seven children and about thirty grandchildren attended a six o clock supper and a program by her grandchildren. Mrs. Lewis was among 1864 pioneers to Bear Lake valley.
George Johnston of Ovid and Mrs. Nathalie Monsoon of St. Charles were summoned to Idaho Falls early in the week after the death of their sister Miss Caroline Johnson.

Elmer Wilcox returned from Cokeville Wyoming where he has been shearing sheep at the Frank Maw ranch. Other shearers were George Nate of Dingle and Brown Griffith of Fairview Wyoming. Over 4000 head were shorn at fourteen cents per head and board. Cold weather forced postponement until after lambing.
Boise Idaho 1929 house of representatives will be fifty eight members, a reduction of ten from sixty eight. Ten counties Ada Bannock Bingham Bonner Canyon Cassia Fremont Idaho Kootenai and Twin Falls each lose one representative. Governor vote totals show 1926 118505 and 1924 148756, guiding the apportionment.
Mrs Marie Wilker of this city who has passed her 85th birthday and is still hale hearty and active was up town last Friday and gave this office a pleasant call.
A Utah to California colonization led by Brigham Young era pioneers. Charles C. Rich and Amasa Lyman led about 300 settlers from Salt Lake to San Bernardino in 1851, establishing a fort near the Lugo tract and founding the county. A courthouse dedication on April 30 celebrated the county's formation and pioneer heritage.
