USU Student Rolls Auto Near Ovid
State Policeman H E Chadwell investigated a one car accident Tuesday about three tenths of a mile west of Ovid on State Highway 36. Gregory G Merrill of Montpelier was traveling west when a book dropped to the floor and he lost control, the car rolled once into a borrow pit. The car suffered about 1500 dollars in damage and Merrill received minor head cuts. He wore a seat belt which may have prevented further injury. A citation was issued for speeding for conditions.

Tras Election Tuesday and Montpelier School Closures Discussed
At the regular Board of Trustees meeting for School Dist. 33 trustees debated closing grade schools in Dingle and Bloomington and moving 10th to 12th graders to Montpelier High. The plan would shift 8th and 9th grades to Paris Fielding High, with 7th graders at Lincoln Jr. High in Montpelier. A vote was not taken.

Closed Fire Season Begins Idaho Wide
The closed fire season in Idaho outside cities began May 10. State Land Commissioner Gordon Trombley states it is unlawful to burn on forest or range lands without a burn permit. Permits are available from State Forestry, US Forest Service, or Grazing District offices. Ed Ring, assistant state forester, says campers and debris burners caused 259 Idaho fires. carelessness is the major factor and citizens must prevent them.

Montpelier Man Killed in U P Train Accident Near Kemmerer
Ronald Armatage of Montpelier died after falling from a United Pacific train near Kemmerer Wyoming while investigating sparks. He fell beneath the locomotive wheels and into Ham's Fork River. Rescue efforts began at the Opal junction bridge and continued as authorities searched. later reports said his body was recovered near the bridge. The Bear River area saw local volunteers assist with the response.
