Trustees Seek Seats in May 20 School Board Election

Bear Lake County School District No. 33 will elect trustees for zones three and five on May 20. Richard Burgoyne and Phil Hulme along with William A. Jenson filed for Zone 3 and Dr. J W Owsley declines reelection from Zone 5. A 5 mill plant facilities levy is on the ballot for all qualified voters. Poll locations and eligibility details appear in pages six and seven.

Car-Wash Project Aims to Fund Sun Valley Trip

The Paris Lions Club sponsors a car-wash Saturday beside Carlsen's "66" Service to cover costs for Bear Lake High Double Mixed Quartet’s trip to Sun Valley for the Lions Convention. The quartet and Lions Club seek community support and appreciate contributions.

Rites Held for Elgin H. Keg Jackson at Paris LDS Church

Funeral services were held Monday at the Paris LDS Wards Chapel for Elgin Harold Keg Jackson 64 who died after surgery in Oxnard California He was born January 13 1905 in Randolph Utah son of David and Amelia Jackson A retired rancher and cattleman he married Lee Tarbett in Salt Lake City February 25 1928 Survived by his widow a son Victor H Jackson of Montpelier a daughter Patricia Michaelson Oxnard eight grandchildren five brothers listed with residences

Grassman Committee Plans County Program for 1969

The Bear Lake County Grassman Committee met at Montpelier City Hall on April 16 with guests Delbert Fallon head of Idaho Bureau of Land Management and Hugh Hough Grassman Committee chairman. Fallon projected population growth and land needs through 2050 while Hough reported on the Grassman tour and Dutch oven dinner.

Bear Lake FFA Claims Sweepstake Award In District Contests

Bear Lake FFA Chapter competed in district livestock and dairy cattle judging and crops identification contests. The crops test at Malad April 28 saw Bear Lake finish fourth. Members Bruce Cochran Wayne Lloyd and Drue Smith represented the chapter. Craig Passey was elected District president with Dallan Nalder Blake Mikelson Jack Geddis and Roscoe Stewart chosen for officer roles. Bear Lake also earned positions in Livestock and Dairy Judging at Utah State University in Logan.

Obituary and Funeral Rites Held in Utah Community

Sal Lake City and nearby towns report the obituary of a local resident with services led by Bishop John Spencer of Paris First Ward. The ceremony featured prayers and music by Leonora Stucki and Ruth K. Anderson, with Virgil Bailey and Fenton Allred delivering prayers and songs, followed by a Logan burial. Pallbearers included Pete Jensen, E. H. Crawford, Christy Wheelock, Cole Jackson, Steve Jackson, and Lloyd Michaelson. The interment took place in Logan, Utah.

The Paris LDS Wards Old Folks Party for those over 60 is scheduled this Friday May 9 starting at 4 30 p m at the Wards Chapel. Dinner will be served at 6 00 p m Attendees needing transport should call Fred Lutz or Delmoine Hansen.

Montpelier Chamber hears Idaho commerce official

The Montpelier Chamber of Commerce met Tuesday noon with Albert E. Minton executive secretary of Idaho Department of Commerce and Development as guest speaker. He described the department functions and noted legislative expansion since its 1954 inception.

Hayden String Quartet to Entertain Bear Basin Concert

The Hayden String Quartet of Utah women will perform at Bear Lake LDS Stake Tabernacle Paris with a 12 voice chamber choir. Soloists Leonora Ford and Kathy Peterson appear. Ford is a piano soloist with Utah Symphony and Peterson is a standout violinist. The hour and half program starts at 8:00 p.m. and admission is open to all Concert Association members.

Bear Lake earns Sweep Stakes Trophy in district judging

Team members Rand Hart Drue Smith Craig Passey Blair Keetch and Ly man Alleman led Bear Lake in dairy and livestock judging district events. Drue tied for fourth in dairy while Lyman Alleman was top in livestock. Bear Lake finished with 50 points, Preston 43 and Marsh Valley 38.

Bear Lake County Hosts 4-Hers on Off-Farm Tour

Bear Lake County hosted about 50 4-H boys and girls with leaders and Extension staff from Caribou Franklin Oneida and Bear Lake counties for an off-the-farm tour. They visited the County Library IGA food cooperative and the El Paso Gas Compressor Station to compare farm cooperatives with corporate business practices. The group then wrote tour stories with a $35 Idaho Cooperative Council scholarship awarded to the best entry. Bear Lake participants named include Barbara Brown John Skinner Elaine Johnson Steven Vallentine Arlene Johnson Barbara Eborn Milton Ward Debby Smedley Janice Catron Kent Davis Carter Talbot Wanda Alleman Deon Ward Judy Brown LeeAnn Benchley Jolene Veney Beverly Jensen Susan Bodily and Wendy Riggsby.
