Montpelier Lions earned straight wins to reach the final of the annual ns basketball tournament. The Paris Town team joined them in the finals after a late scoring run that put Town ahead 26.4 in the last period. Mac Monson received a silver basketball as top individual scorer, while St. Helier Legion took third place and sportsmanship honors went to a Montpelier player.

William R Morgan dies in Washington aged 79
William Roberts Morgan 79 died last Friday at his daughter LaRue Hogan’s home in Richland Washington. A Liberty resident for life he was born July 27 1870 and served as LDS bishop for 18 years and in the bishopric 28 years. He was Bear Lake county county commissioner. Survivors include four daughters two sons fourteen grandchildren and siblings. Funeral services were held in the Liberty ward chapel with burial at the grave site conducted by Alonzo H Matthews.

One hundred county workers attended the fifth annual Cancer Control Training school in Montpelier despite a storm that impaired roads. George Oper presided over the event for districts Bear Lake Caribou and Franklin with county commander Mrs. O. T. Parker welcoming attendees and outlining the April fund drive aiming at $1.00 per family. Educational chairwoman Mrs. Wesley Baker stressed cancer control knowledge. secretary Mrs. J. B. Walton explained report forms. Five year certificates were awarded to twelve recipients including Mrs. Lee Jewett Georgetown Mrs. Nina Rodeback Georgetown Mrs. Alfred Jenzen Ovid and several Montpelier residents. Sanna Wilhelmina Anderson, a longtime resident of St Charles born in Denmark, died aged 80.
