WPA Project Approved by President Grants Funds for Roads

The Post reports approval of WPA project No 30309 to construct re cut and improve roads in Bear Lake county. The $47 690 appropriation funds work this year to repair roads that are often impassable, aiding the county road system and local travel.

Forest officials inspect regional deer herds and ranges

A federal wildlife group led by G F L Shantz and J H Hatton from Washington D C visits deer herds and winter ranges east of Logan after a San Francisco wildlife conference. The party includes Percy E Melis L HL Douglas and Orange A Olsen and will move to Jackson Hole to inspect elk feedlots and winter ranges. Mrs Ray Beck of Soda Springs visited her parents Ernest and Mrs Gubler over Sunday.

Fair Grounds To Be Improved By WPA Money

Paris city council sought WPA funds for fair and rodeo grounds improvements. Project plans include bleacher and grandstand additions, fencing upgrades, water main upgrade, horse stables relocation, tree planting, and new driveways. WPA approval covers curb and gutter work. property owners supplying materials will have labor provided by WPA.

M-Men and Gleaners Banquet and Dance Planned

The Bear Lake M-Men and Gleaners announce their annual banquet at 7 30 p m Wednesday in the Hotel Paris for members only. A public dance follows in the Paris pavilion with tickets sold by members as crowd gathers for the event.

Logan Boys Take Over Ideal Beach

Robert B. Crookston of Logan Utah an A S student has taken over the management of Ideal Beach and is on the job repairing painting and cleaning up the grounds. Twenty vertages on the west side will be moved to the east side in groups of five for better access. Gus Rich purchased the O H Dunham property east of Ideal Beach and the G G Wright property north of the Dunham place and may establish a dude ranch. He has installed a small saw mill a shingle mill and cabinet machinery and is doing most of the work on the place.

Bear Lake to be stocked with Mackinaw trout amid Utah Idaho talks

Utah game commissioner Newell B. Cook reported an agreement with Idaho to stock Bear Lake with one million Mackinaw trout, 500000 from each state. Utah Idaho will survey water quality and food content as they push the project next year. Cook plans a southern Utah tour during wildlife week and to visit a proposed up land bid farm near St George.

District Court of Honor for Boy Scouts Set March 26

The Boy Scouts district Court of Honor will be held Sunday evening March 26. Scouts will receive honors for activities in electricity handicraft art music carpentry woodwork cooking safety first aid and pathfinding. Applications have been made for badges for two first class scouts one second class and one tenderfoot from Paris Second ward troop No 66. Troop 90 has applied for eight first class badges and one second class badge. Paris-First ward scouts expect to apply for awards soon.

Red Cross Chapter Reorganized Here in Logan

Mr Forret Stewart of Boise led the recent Red Cross reorganization meeting held Friday March 17 in the stake office. New officers named include Wilford Price as chair man Adelaide Tueller as vice chair Deardorff as roll call chair and E W Stuck as disaster chair. The group discussed projects such as a chapter nurse expanded community chest swimming campaign first aid and related tasks. Lawrence Peterson of North Eden attended as county visitor with plans for an exhibition at the San Francisco fair. Kenneth Palmer reported a quiet day with friends and below normal snow storage in Dogan canyon.

One of Bear Lake's Earliest Pioneers Sarah Elizabeth Clifton Shepherd

Narrative of Sarah Elizabeth Clifton Shepherd born 1861 in Williams Kings County New York. It traces her family's 1861 migration to Utah, journey across plains with Captain Richard Thorne, settlement in Bear Lake by 1863, and early hardships including her mother Ann Cook’s death and the move to Willard and then Bear Lake.

State game leaders back big planting program at conference

Idaho and Utah agree on a 250-50 planting plan for Bear Lake wagering about one million trout split between the two states. A survey of water quality will be conducted, eggs supplied jointly, and the federal bureau of fisheries will assist in rearing. Attendees included A. B. Hatch and Newel B. Cook with other sportsmen and officials.

Funeral Services Held for Sharon Man John Gambling

Funeral services for John Gambling lifelong Sharon resident were held last Thursday at the Sharon L D S Ward chapel at 1 pm. He died after injuries from a horse kick while receiving treatment at a Montpelier hospital. Born January 27 1887 in Sharon Idaho he served about ten years as bishop of the L D S church. Survived by wife one daughter Elna and four sons Roscoe Carl Norman and Grant all of Sharon four sisters Mrs James Hinson Wardboro Mrs Ralph Grunder Baise Mrs John Louges Sharon and Mrs Nellie Perkins Logan and one brother Charles Gambling Baise.

Former Bear Laker Visits Utah Nevada Idaho Officials

Evanie Krogue, formerly of Montpetier and now living in Washington DC, spent weeks in the west meeting Utah Nevada and Idaho legislators for the UTS Housing Authority. He briefly saw his father David Krogue of Montpelier and sister Mrs. Ben Hulme of Paris. His return trip was via air.

Sharon Residents Seek Road Upgrade Near Saw Mill

A Sharon group met with county commissioners Monday to request a road improvement project near the Sharon Saw Mill. The plan covers about one and a half miles of road. The commissioners will act on the proposal at a later date.

Two Logan Men Ski to Garden City

Palmer and Frank Cranny of Mount Logan Ski Club ski from Long Grove Ranger Station to Garden City Kansas last Sunday. They left about 8:30 p.m. and arrived at 6:00 p.m. The east range snow is mostly gone but Logan slide holds four to five feet. Mrs. Palmer met them and drove them back to Logan.

County Measures Weed Control Aid Approved by Commissioners

At Monday session the county auditor was told to order a small car of sodium chlorate to combat noxious weeds. The county agent was also directed to supply poison to farmers for weed control.

Ontario man becomes manager of Montpelier Roxy theatre

W. E. Less of Ontario Oregon has assumed management of the Roxy theatre in Montpelier replacing O R Rows. He reports the theatre will be remodeled with the front extended to the sidewalk.
