Wheat Conservation Plan Telegraphed To Idaho Counties

The county food administrator reports telegrams from E M Puemire and Hoover directing a fifty fifty substitution plan effective March 11. Wheat and wheat products to be sold only with equal substitutes, potatoes used as substitutes, and a 4 to 1 substitute rate. Evaporated substitutes and other items to be allocated to meet the goal, with emphasis on conserving breadstuffs for Allies.

Ward Tryouts Set For March 26 Across Three Districts

Ward officers were briefed on contest plans including Public Speaking for Seniors with ten minute talks. Music pieces include Ladres Quartet Lullaby in a Canoe and a Dixie arrangement by Prof. Evans Stephens. Retold Junior stories and district panels follow, with district tryouts on April 9.

Mutual Creamery Doing Good Business in Paris

The Mutual Creamery Company expanded in Paris after local businessmen joined to back stock and build a modern facility. In 1917 the plant processed 1,426,800 pounds of milk producing 140,300 pounds of cheese and paying producers $29,778.76, plus about $5,475 yearly for milk hauling, totaling $35,253.76. The operation now yields about 400 pounds of cheese daily with plans to grow in summer, reflecting a community effort to boost the county’s economy.

Commissioners plan grounds and courthouse improvements

County commissioners approved court house grounds improvements including removing old hotels and Paris Post building, leveling and grassing, replacing fences, adding hardwood floors, paint and paper, and two new safe cabinets. They budget 3500 to 5000 dollars and hired Wm Hayward to oversee prep. They also authorize steel bridges over Bear River at Border and at Pegram with completion by early 1919, and seek a road between Bear Lake and Franklin counties.
